Relatively fresh from his recent directorial debut A Single Man (based on Christopher Isherwood’s 1964 novel), Tom Ford has begun work on his next film project. Whilst Ford has actually been silent about his new work, in fact emphatically refusing to comment upon it – Colin Firth, Oscar nominated star of A Single Man, has apparently been somewhat more forthcoming. In an interview with Moviefone, Firth distanced himself from the new project, declaring himself “jealous” of whoever will star, and saying, “it’s gonna be very different from A Single Man.”

According to The Playlist, Ford concurred with Firth when he described his next project as being “very different” in vague comments back when he was doing press for A Single Man. He also stated that the new film would be something developed totally “from scratch”. Whether this means he’ll be working from a completely original screenplay isn’t definite, but it does seem likely.
Prior to his career change in to directing movies, Tom Ford was creative director of Gucci and Yves Saint-Laurent, perhaps going some way to explaining the attention to detail in each and every shot of A Single Man. We were lucky enough to speak with him about the film last December. It received critical acclaim, three Golden Globes and scored Firth an Academy Award nomination. If his next outing is as successful, this could be the start of a hugely illustrious directing career.
