It got overshadowed by Deadline’s breaking news that Spider-Man 4 is no more, but earlier the site reported that Tom Hanks is heading back to the director’s chair. You may have fond memories of Hanks’s charming directorial debut, That Thing You Do!, released in 1996. More than a decade later, Hanks’s follow-up is going by Larry Crowne, and will feature Hanks as the title character, “a man forced to reinvent himself and find a new career as he navigates the second act of his life.” To make sure the film is overflowing with star power, Hanks will reunite with his Charlie Wilson’s War co-star Julia Roberts.
The film definitely has potential, although the title is kinda boring, especially compared to the wonder (or one-der, if you prefer) that is That Thing You Do!. Maybe it just needs that exclamation point. I know I’d pay $10 to see Larry Crowne!
