Tom Hanks is reportedly circling a lead role in Kathryn Bigelow’s Sleeping Dogs (formerly known as Triple Frontier).  Penned by The Hurt Locker scribe Mark Boal, the film is set within an organized crime district between Paraguay, Argentina, and Brazil while focusing on the lives of five men who work in said area.  The film is set to begin production early next year and, while an offer is yet to be extended Hanks’ way, Heat Vision reports that the two-time Oscar winner is currently in talks with Bigelow to play one of the five principal leads.

The report also mentions Leonardo DiCaprio and Jeremy Renner as names mentioned alongside the project at one point or another.  Back in August, we reported that Bigelow had met with Javier Bardem, Christian Bale, Sean Penn, and Will Smith about starring as well.  In the meantime, Hanks is set to star alongside Sandra Bullock in Stephen Daldry’s (The Reader) adaptation of Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close and is starring in/writing/directing Larry Crowne which also stars Julia Roberts, Bryan Cranston, and Gugu Mbatha-Raw (TV’s Undercovers).

I’ve always wanted to see Tom Hanks do a movie with Tom Cruise. They are both incredible actors and it would be amazing to see them bounce off each other in a film.

I hope to see Tom Hanks and Bruce Willis do another movie together after only having one scene together in Bonfire of the Vanities (1990). They are both incredible actors and it would be amazing to see them bounce off each other in a film again.
