Tom Hiddleston WAR HORSE, THE AVENGERS, THOR 2 interview slice TIFF

At this year’s Toronto Film Festival, I was able to sit down with Tom Hiddleston for an exclusive interview about writer-director Terence Davies’ The Deep Blue Sea.  Starring Rachel Weisz, Simon Russell Beale and Hilldeston, the film is set in post-war Britain and it’s about the wife of a high court judge who walks out on her marriage and moves in with a young ex-RAF pilot (Hiddleston), with whom she has fallen passionately in love.  The film is an  adaptation of Terence Rattigan’s classic play.

Since the interview with Hiddleston was almost twenty minutes, I decided to break it up into two parts.  In the coming days I’ll post what he said about The Deep Blue Sea, but I wanted to start with what he said about Steven Spielberg’s War Horse, Joss Whedon’s Avengers , and Thor 2. Hit the jump for more.

Tom Hiddleston Thor_PremiereDuring the interview, Hiddleston talked about what it was like to work with Spielberg and making War Horse, his thoughts on having a new director on Thor 2 and where does he think the film is heading, and what it was like to film The Avengers in New York City and have so many people taking photos and watching them film,.   In addition, I asked if he ever wore his Loki costume off set…like to a Starbucks.  Here’s the time index and interview.   Look for the full conversation later this week.

Tom Hiddleston

  • :19 Talks about War Horse and what it was like to work with Spielberg
  • 2:31 Talks about the significance of World War I and how Spielberg came to direct War Horse.
  • 4:11 Talks about having a new director on Thor 2 and when they’ll be shooting. He thinks filming begins in spring 2012.
  • 4:50 The direction of Thor 2. Says they’re interested in expanding Thor’s universe and taking things deeper into space.
  • 5:42 The Avengers. Talks about the all the set photos that have leaked.
  • 6:36 Has he ever thought about wearing the Loki costume off-set, walking into a Starbucks?

I hope Loki is finally killed off in ‘The Avengers’ and excluded from any future Marvel films. They should not use Loki a third time. Is Loki going to be Marvel’s equivalent of Lex Luthor?!

There are many villains that weren’t in the first film that they can utilise in future Thor sequels.

Out of Thor (2011) and The Avengers (2012) all we have gotten (and will continue to get with future Thor sequels) is Loki.

A lot of people don’t know that the gorgeous and sexy Rachel Weisz is a cougar in The Deep Blue Sea. Tom Hiddleston is 30 and she is 41.

Loki, like all great supervillains, is still an important supporting character even when he’s not the villain. So if Surtur were the villain of a Thor sequel, you would expect Loki trying to redeem himself by helping Thor, Odin and everyone else stop him. Or if the Enchantress and Executioner were the villains, Loki would likely turn out to have been benefacting them.

What Alientraveller said! I can’t speak for the Avengers yet, but I certainly wouldn’t mind seeing more of Loki in future films after this. He’s a very intriguing antagonist, and in Thor (2011) I thought he was fantastic. I doubt they’ll use him again as the main villain in Thor 2, so it’ll be interesting to see where his storyline goes. I myself think Loki somehow redeeming himself would be great. Anyways, thanks for this interview, Tom’s a talented actor and I can’t wait to see more of his work!

Who cares. Rachel is a great actress and a timeless beauty.

Being that this is a movie and not he actual comics he could get killed off but its highly doubtful. There could’ve been other Thor villains to use but his rivalry with Loki has always been a great one Despite their Poor depiction off Loki in the film. I was hoping to see atleast a glimpse of Ulik the Troll or maybe other parts of the 9 Realms….

I saw Thor last night on DVD(RedBox :) ) and glad once again i didn’t shed $12 to see it. It wasn’t terrible but the CG(Especially) and character depictions we’re quite annoying. To keep it short…..Loki’s movie version is a B***H compared to comics….

He looks like he could play Data in STNG or am I wrong?
