Back in April, we reported that Oscar-winner Alicia Vikander has landed the coveted role of Lara Craft for the Tomb Raider reboot. The movie project, which has Roar Uthaug (The Wave) on board to direct, will tell the story of a young and untested Croft fighting to survive her first adventure. It’s a similar plotline to the 2013 video game, which saw a young Lara stranded on an island, feeling really bad about the first time she had to kill an animal for food, and then proceeding to murder countless bad guys over the course of the game. It’s fun.

Now Tomb Raider has a release date. Warner Bros. Pictures and MGM have announced that Tomb Raider will hit theaters on March 16, 2018. It currently has that date all to itself, but March 2018 is a competitive month. There’s the prehistoric shark movie Meg and an untitled Fox/Marvel movie on March 2nd; the untitled Wreck-It Ralph sequel set for March 9th; and Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One on March 30th. The blockbuster season is year-round, and so Tomb Raider is going to have to come to play.

There’s still no word yet on what the plot will entail, but the video game franchise has been kicking since 1996, and the previous Tomb Raider movies were hits at the box office. If they want to fashion this as a female Indiana Jones, Vikander can certainly carry off that premise.

Speaking of Vikander, her drama Tulip Fever was recently booted back to February 24, 2017, so we’ll be getting at least one Vikander movie for the next two years. She’ll next be seen later this year in Jason Bourne opposite Matt Damon and Tommy Lee Jones and in the drama The Light Between Oceans with Michael Fassbender and Rachel Weisz.  The actress is also attached to the films Submergence and Euphoria.
