Last month on an episode of The Collision, Matt and I were discussing our disappointment with Jupiter Ascending and the fact that, while 2014 looked promising for original sci-fi films, 2015 appeared to be wholly lacking in that department. Then we suddenly remembered Tomorrowland. I think the reason it slipped our mind is that Disney has thankfully been keeping the film close to the vest; in an age where every movie’s third act is spoiled in marketing, the trailers for Tomorrowland have kept their focus on one thing: engaging audiences, but not really revealing anything. Thus far they’ve been incredibly successful in that regard, so I’m eager to see what the theatrical trailer has in store for us when it debuts on Monday, March 9th at 12:30pm ET following a live Q&A with co-writer/director Brad Bird and co-writer/producer Damon Lindelof.

In anticipation of the new trailer premiere next week, Disney has unveiled a new Tomorrowland poster for Bird’s film. The Incredibles and Iron Giant director knocked his live-action debut, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, out of the park, and for Tomorrowland he’s working from a script he co-wrote with Lindelof, so the behind-the-scenes team is mighty promising.

This new poster maintains the spirit of the marketing thus far (that teaser trailer is still a gold standard for what teasers should be as far as I’m concerned), as we see George Clooney’s former boy-genius staring into the sky, flanked by the titular Tomorrowland. There’s also a young boy to be seen, and I wonder if that’s the younger version of Clooney’s mysterious character. Britt Robertson leads the pic as a bright, optimistic teen who embarks on a danger-filled mission with Clooney, and I can’t wait to see what surprises await.

Check out the new Tomorrowland poster below, via Disney, and check back here on Monday to watch the trailer. The film also stars Hugh Laurie, Raffey Cassidy, Tim McGraw, Judy Greer, Kathryn Hahn, Keegan-Michael Key, and Thomas Robinson. Tomorrowland opens in traditional theaters and IMAX on May 22nd.
