YouTube’s Top 10 Trailers of 2012 Include HE DARK KNIGHT RISES, SKYFALL and More

As we wind down to the final days of the year, the internet is flooded with countless “Top 10” lists consisting of pretty much everything that ever existed in the past 12 months. YouTube is getting in on the fun, but their list is unique in that it’s a Top 10 list compiled using statistics instead of subjective opinion. The site has unveiled the “Top Trailers on YouTube for 2012,” which they compiled based on view count, view rate (how much of a given trailer people chose to watch), and organic views.

The resulting list may surprise you, as a whopping four spots belong to the video game Call of Duty: Black Ops II alone. There’s also one television show and five films that rank among 2012’s highest grossing films, though a major 2012 release is notably absent. What the hell is up with all of these CoD videos? Where’s the Prometheus trailer? The movie may have been disappointing but that was one of the best trailers I’ve seen for a movie. Happy Skyfall and TDKR got noticed but BLOPS 2? The “Surprise” trailer was okay at best but come on…

Huh, I wonder why The Avengers didn’t make the list. If I remember correctly, the second trailer broke records on Itunes. I may be wrong, though. The biggest movie of the year didn’t make the top 10 trailer list. Kinda ironic.

because it spoilt one of the most important moments in the movie…

I agree with the poster above. PROMETHEUS has to be there, especially the first teaser and the IMAX trailer. Way too many Call of Duty game trailers, what the hell???

  Skyfall was so unbelievably overrated . . . . . i honestly don’t know what the hell was so important about James trying to keep M alive. I couldn’t have cared less if TDKR was about Bruce trying to keep Alfred alive. If he dies, you have a new tragedy to keep you going in your fight against crime. . . . if he lives, your bond is stronger than ever as you work together to fight against crime . . . . neither actually stops you dead in your tracks like Rachel’s death kept Bruce out of action for 8 years, or how Vesper’s death screwed up James for the entire sequel. (Quantum of Solace, despite its issues, was MUCH more enjoyable than Skyfall)

The five minute Cloud Atlas trailer would be #1 on an actual best trailer list. It was amazing, and sadly much better than the actual movie.

  Agree that Cloud Atlas should be on anyone’s “Best of” list from the year, but this was a popularity contest, not one of quality. And Cloud Atlas was just as transcendent – for me anyway – as its trailer.

The Dark Knight Rises trailer is genius cause it made people want to see one of the worst, most turgid pieces of donkey shit every crapped into theatres and still has people convinced that it was a good film.

Who came up with this list? Skyfall trailers? COD trailers? Man of Steel trailer has almost 24 million views and it’s only been online a week. The Avengers trailer has almost 40 millions views.
