As a preamble to this week’s Top 5, I’d like to take a few lines to recognize my own personal “Top 2″ from the past 7 days: the St. Louis Cardinals and Warner Premiere’s animated adaptation of Frank Miller‘s classic tale The Dark Knight Returns, Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 1. Beginning with the former, my beloved Cardinals completed yet another historic comeback last night against the Washington Nationals. Win or lose, I think it’s necessary to get in writing here that I won’t have a single negative thing to say about this team the rest of the way. As for the latter, I had a chance to sit down with director Jay Oliva‘s animated adaptation the other day and I found it to be a worthy retelling of Miller’s classic Bat-story. If you have any interest in animated comic adaptations and have yet to check it out, I recommend doing so.

But enough of my own personal favorites, included in this week’s trip around the bases (yep, that’s another baseball reference) is our coverage of New York Comic-Con 2012, the first trailer for director Sacha Gervasi‘s Hitchcock, Seven Psychopaths interviews with Sam Rockwell, Christopher Walken and more, a new trailer for Quentin Tarantino‘s Django Unchained, and a slew of interviews for The CW’s new superhero series, Arrow. A brief recap and link to each awaits.

1. New York Comic-Con 2012 Coverage

While some in NYC may be buzzing about the Yankees making yet another appearance in the ALCS (damn it, another baseball reference), the most exciting thing currently going on in The Big Apple for many is 2012’s iteration of the New York Comic-Con. In the event that you weren’t able to attend the event yourself, Steve and Matt have you covered with a recap of some of the major panels, pics from the convention floor, and forthcoming 1:1 interviews. Click here to stay up to date on all of our coverage.

2. First Trailer for HITCHCOCK

This past week brought what I think is one of the most entertaining trailers I’ve seen all year: the first trailer for Hitchcock. Featuring a fine mixture of comedy and drama and what look to be stellar performances from both Anthony Hopkins and Helen Mirren, the 2:30 cut has instantly put the pic at the top of my cinematic “To-Do List”.

3. SEVEN PSYCHOPATHS Interviews with Sam Rockwell and More

Aside from writer/director Derek Cianfrance’s The Place Beyond the Pines, no film coming out of TIFF last month caught my attention more than writer/director Martin McDonagh’s Seven Psychopaths. Not only did Steve and Matt love it, but the pic garnered near universal praise from Toronto audiences. Even better is that, unlike Pines which may take its sweet time gracing a silver screen near me or anyone else for that matter, Psychopaths hit theaters this past weekend and may very well play into my weekend plans in the near future. If you’re half as excited about the film as I am or if you just want to watch/read interviews with Christopher Walken then I encourage you to check out Steve’s video interview with Sam Rockwell and Walken, and Christina’s interviews with Martin McDonagh and, yes, Rockwell and Walken.

4. New Trailer for DJANGO UNCHAINED

If Hitchcock is near the top of my “Most Anticipated” for the rest of the year, it’s being kept close company by Tarantino’s Django Unchained. The writer/director has assembled an impressive cast, the premise sets up what could be an ultra-rewarding payoff, and everything I’ve seen from the film thus far (this latest trailer included) keeps saying, “Jason, it’s okay to be really, really excited. Django won’t let you down.”.

5. ARROW Interviews with Stephen Amell, Katie Cassidy and More

I’ll be the first to admit that I’ve never been a huge fan of any live-action, superhero television series. I never got into Heroes or Smallville and really have no interest in going back to visit celebrated superhero series’ such as ABC’s Batman or CBS’ The Incredible Hulk. That said, I believe I may be in the minority as The CW rolled out its latest superhero drama, Arrow, to the network’s best rating in three years this past week. In celebration of the show’s debut, not only can you watch the entire pilot online now, but Christina also graced the site this past week with interviews with stars Stephen Amell, Katie Cassidy, and producers Andrew Kreisberg and Marc Guggenheim (featuring a guest appearance by Geoff Johns).
