Admittedly, I have fallen off of the beaten path with regards to checking out awards season contenders in the theaters this year. That said, I'm hoping to begin turning all of that around this afternoon as a matinee of director Jason Reitman's Young Adult is currently on my Saturday itinerary. While I can't claim to be a huge Diablo Cody fan (I tend to think her characters all sound the same...as in, exactly like Diablo Cody), I'm almost always happy with Reitman's work. Moreover, Charlize Theron looks to be in rare comedic form (an arena she doesn't always find herself in, but one she undoubtedly has the chops to pull off). All in all, here's to hoping that my Young Adult screening is just the tip of my awards season iceberg. Whether or not director Marc Webb's take on Peter Parker will be able to compete with my love for Christopher Nolan's Bat story and/or Sam Raimi's first two Spider-Man cuts remains to be seen. Regardless, I have to admit that the more I see of The Amazing Spider-Man, the more cautiously optimistic I become. In the name of getting our readers the most bang for their Internet buck, though, we elected to condense them down into one of our five slots. So, without further adieu, I present to you this crazy week in trailers (and in some cases, posters too): Men in Black 3, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, The Expendables 2 (new poster here), Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance (new poster here), and Sacha Baron Cohen's The Dictator.4. 69th Annual Golden Globes NominationsAre the Golden Globes historically a great predictor of Oscar success? Not really. Nevertheless, that doesn't mean that the 69th Annual Golden Globes can't stand on its own merits. After all, Ricky Gervais is hosting again which should make for a fair amount of excitement/controversy. Plus, at the end of the day, who doesn't enjoy watching Hollywood pat itself on the back for a few consecutive hours? If this sounds like you, then I would advise that you to take a moment to get up to date on all of this year's Golden Globe nominees. As for me? Well, I'm just happy to see my favorite pic of the year thus far, 50/50, is getting some recognition.5. A Look at BRIDESMAIDS' Awards Season ChancesLet me begin by saying this: I think Bridesmaids is far from a perfect comedy. Even after watching it on three separate occasions, there's still some scenes that feel out of place (i.e. Kristen Wiig and Rose Byrne's tennis match...who are their partners?). With that being said, I'm being completely honest when I say that I would love to see Melissa McCarthy's name among the "Best Supporting Actress" nominees at the 2012 Oscars. Simply put, I think her performance is a comedic tour de force. If you have similar feelings about Bridesmaids as a whole or McCarthy in particular, I think it would behoove you to take a glance at Adam's "What Awards Can Bridesmaids Actually Win?" feature.
