The nationwide expansion of Harmony Korine‘s Spring Breakers meant that I had the opportunity to catch the film last night at my local theater. We’ll talk a more specifically about our coverage of the film after the jump. For now, I’d like to make a futile attempt at encapsulating my feelings on the pic in the next few sentences. There’s a lot to like about Breakers whether it be the performances (James Franco‘s especially), the music, the slick editing and use of foreshadowing, etc. Nevertheless, for me this isn’t a movie that I “liked” as much as it’s one I respect. It’s beautiful, surreal, challenging, abhorrent, and vapid all at the same time. In other words, it’s art.

I could go on for days about the pic but that’s not why we’re here. In this week’s Top 5 we’ll take a look at our Breakers coverage, some Transformers 4 plot details, Olympus Has Fallen interviews with Gerard Butler and Antoine Fuqua just to name a few, a new trailer and poster for Star Trek Into Darkness, and The Croods interviews with Nicolas Cage and more. As is standard, a brief recap and link to each awaits after the jump.

1. SPRING BREAKERS Interviews with Harmony Korine and Cast

In case it wasn’t clear in this week’s opening paragraph, I recommend checking out Spring Breakers. Not because I think it’s the most fun you’ll ever have at the movies but because it’s a layered work that’s both culturally relevant and will have you saying “spring break forevaaaa” in your best James Franco/Alien voice for weeks to come. My opinion aside, this past week we brought you video interviews with writer/director Harmony Korine (where he discusses some iconic visuals from his spring break research) and the female cast of Vanessa Hudgens, Selena Gomez, Ashley Benson, and Rachel Korine.

2. TRANSFORMERS 4 Plot Details Emerge

I’ll be honest, I checked out of the Transformers movie scene and vowed never to return after struggling through the cluster known as Revenge of the Fallen. That said, I can still appreciate that it’s a huge franchise with a boat load of fans who love hearing new details and developments when they become available. And that, my friends, is why these new plot details from Transformers 4 make the cut this week.

3. OLYMPUS HAS FALLEN Interviews with Gerard Butler and More

In celebration of this weekend’s opening of the White House takeover pic, Olympus Has Fallen (Matt’s review here), Steve graced the site this past week with a slew of video and text interviews for the film. Of the television variety we have Gerard Butler and director Antoine Fuqua, Aaron Eckhart and Angela Bassett, and Dylan McDermott and Rick Yune. On the text side of things we have Antoine Fuqua, Aaron Eckhart, and Gerard Butler.

4. New STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS Trailer and Poster

On the surface, Paramount’s release of a new international trailer for Star Trek Into Darkness was great mostly because “Hey, a new Star Trek Into Darkness trailer!. Look a little deeper though and you’ll see that the new trailer’s greatest contribution is this new Alice Eve image above that I feel compelled to use for every Star Trek related post from here on out. Oh yeah, it lead to a new poster from the film too. I stand by my previous statement about the Eve image, though.

5. THE CROODS Interviews with Nicolas Cage and More

If you find yourself watching our video interviews with the cast and directors of The Croods (Matt’s review here) simply because you’re excited about the film then that’s awesome and I thank you for your interest. If you’re here because you want to watch Steve talk with Nicolas Cage about his stolen issue of Action Comics #1 and the possible movie that may result from it, well that too is a perfectly acceptable reason. In addition to Cage, the video interview arsenal also includes almost too much attractiveness for one interview in Ryan Reynolds and Emma Stone, and directors Kirk De Micco and Chris Sanders.
