In anticipation of checking out Monsters University later today, my wife and I and two of our nephews rewatched Monsters, Inc. last night. It had been probably 10 years or so since I last watched Inc. and all I can say is shame on me for forgetting how good it is. Within the first 15 minutes of the film, during which I had already laughed no fewer than five times, I was reminded why Pixar (if you haven't already, be sure to check out Brendan's Pixar by the Numbers editorial) is held to such a high standard: because they set that standard for themselves first and, in doing so, conditioned us to expect nothing less than spectacular. Do I prefer it when the studio introduces new characters, stories, and worlds over sequels and spin-offs? Sure. Still yet, they could never release another movie I care about (which won't happen) and would still have done enough for the medium to deserve my eternal appreciation and respect.

Now that I'm finished vouching for a studio that requires zero support from me in order to stay relevant, I can get to the reason we're all here. In this week's Top 5 you can find a possible casting breakdown for Star Wars: Episode VII, our Pacific Rim set visit, the excellent first trailer for Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio's The Wolf of Wall Street, our Riddick set visit recap, and what may very well be the final appearance that Man of Steel ever makes in this weekly feature (no promises, though). 1. Possible Casting Breakdown for STAR WARS: EPISODE VII

As if the popularity of the franchise was ever in doubt, this possible casting breakdown for Star Wars: Episode VII landed online this past week and was easily one of the most read articles on the site during that time. That's right, folks, it's a possible casting breakdown. There's a few lines of description for seven different roles, all of which devoted fans are using as debate fodder in the comments section (which, in true comments section form, also includes an invigorating discussion of correct grammar usage!).

2. PACIFIC RIM Set Visit Recap

I'm past the point of being sold on and/or selling others on the need to see Pacific Rim. It's directed by Guillermo del Toro, stars Idris Elba, Ron Perlman, and Charlie Day among others, and features giant creatures vs. giant robots in a battle to the death. If that's not enough to get you to buy a ticket then I'm not sure Steve's set visit and video blog recap, and on-set interviews with Guillermo del Toro, Ron Perlman, Charlie Day, and producer Callum Greene will do the trick either. If in doubt, though, it's probably still worth giving the links a shot.

3. First Trailer for THE WOLF OF WALL STREET

Anytime you tell me Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio are making a movie together, you have my attention. When you cut a trailer as great as The Wolf of Wall Street's first one, you have my box office dollars nearly five months in advance. Between Matthew McConaughey, the use of Kanye West's "Black Skinhead", and the tagline "More Is Never Enough"...yeah, I need to see this immediately.

4. RIDDICK Set Visit Recap

For the sake of full disclosure I'll admit that I've never seen either Pitch Black or The Chronicles of Riddick. That said, I fully agree with Steve in his set visit recap in which he thanks Fast and Furious fans for helping making this latest entry, Riddick, a reality. If you're like Steve and thankful for another opportunity to visit the world of Riddick (in a rated R fashion, no less) then I think this new international trailer, this Comic-Con poster, these new hi-res images, and our on-set interviews with Vin Diesel, Katee Sackhoff, writer/director David Twohy, and production designer Joseph C. Nemec are right in your wheelhouse.

5. MAN OF STEEL: Editorial, By the Numbers, and More

It's been a fun ride, but now that Man of Steel has been out for a week I think it's probably safe to say that this will mark its final appearance in the Top 5. My laziness prevents me from counting its exact number of appearances in the feature but I'm going to take an educated guess that it's at least 1,933. This in mind, I can't think of a stronger way to send the film out than with a couple of editorials: Matt's 5 Things I Would Like to See in Man of Steel 2 and Brendan's Superman by the Numbers; a podcast episode devoted to it; this list of Easter Eggs and references you may have missed while watching the pic; and some info on Christopher Nolan originally disagreeing with the film's ending & Superman author Mark Waid's negative reaction to the conclusion.
