TOP 5: MAN OF STEEL, THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, Len Wiseman, Jason Bateman & Ryan Reynolds, J.J. Abrams Updates STAR TREK 2

     August 6, 2011

This week’s “Top 5″ is a special one for me. Before letting your imagination run away from you, I’ll just say that it’s not for any nostalgic reasons that connect back to the content at hand but rather because I’m writing it while literally in the midst of moving. For those who haven’t experienced this joyous task first-hand, this means that I’m currently a sweaty, disheveled, unorganized mess who can’t for the life of me figure out when/how/why I accumulated so much junk. For the record, Mom, I’m not referring to my posters. They’re awesome. Period. End of story.

All venting aside, this week’s installment features the first official look at Henry Cavill in director Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel, a video interview with director Len Wiseman where he discusses his Total Recall remake and the return of everyone’s favorite three-breasted woman, the first image of Anne Hathaway in The Dark Knight Rises along with a cornucopia of set photos from the film, an exclusive interview with Jason Bateman and Ryan Reynolds for The Change-Up, and a Star Trek 2 update from J.J. Abrams. You can find brief recaps and links to all of the above after the jump.

1. First Look at Henry Cavill as Superman in MAN OF STEEL

With the film not slated to hit theaters until June 14, 2013, moviegoers were treated to their first official look at Henry Cavill as Superman in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel earlier this week. Click here to check out the full image and let the debate over Cavill and the suit’s merits begin! Also, if you’re in the mood to debate more Man of Steel news, click over to our coverage of Laurence Fishburne’s casting as Perry White where the comments section got an unexpectedly high amount of usage.

2. THE DARK KNIGHT RISES Image/Set Photo Extravaganza

I’ll be honest: the fan in me gets exhausted with the seemingly daily updates from the set of Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises. Although the professional in me (yes, I have a professional side, albeit a small one) understands the economics of covering the film, I would still like to go into the flick with some sense of surprise being, at the very least, plausible. All of this in mind, I have no qualms with checking out official image releases like this one of Anne Hathaway (or, perhaps, her stunt double). Now, for those who want to wander into slightly less official, slightly more spoilriffic-territory (I’m not here to judge), you can click here for set photos of Hathaway and click here for photos and a video of Batman and Bane fighting it out.

3. Director Len Wiseman Video Interview TOTAL RECALL

If you ever want more information regarding the remake of Paul Verhoeven’s 1990 Total Recall, arguably the best place to go is directly to the source. Steve did just that when he caught up with director Len Wiseman for an extended video interview at Comic-Con. During the chat, Wiseman discussed the Recall remake, the return of the three-breasted woman, Underworld: Awakening(which he is producing), and much more. Click here to watch or read a transcript of the entire interview.

4. Jason Bateman and Ryan Reynolds Exclusive Interview THE CHANGE-UP

I have quite a dilemma to work through this weekend. On one hand, for whatever reason, I’m unable to suspend my disbelief during body-switching pics. On the other, I really like both Jason Bateman and Ryan Reynolds. So, while many critics have expressed discontent for The Change-Up, I’m going to do my best to overcome the whole disbelief thing and check out the pic which comes highly recommended by Steve and mildly recommended by Matt (no small feat in itself). Anyhow, click here to check out our exclusive interview with both Bateman and Reynolds. And, if you need a little more selling on the film, click here to watch a video of the two explaining why you should watch The Change-Up.

Let’s just face it: when J.J. Abrams says stuff about Star Trek, or Mission: Impossible, or really anything that concerns the entertainment industry, people have a tendency to listen. As a result, I think it’s important to remind everyone that our own Christina Radish caught up with Abrams at the TCA Press Tour where he updated the status of Star Trek 2 and gave his thoughts on Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol. Click here to read what he had to say.
