I've decided to use this weekend's release of Darren Aronofsky's Noah as an opportunity to reflect on the director's most soul crushing work to date: his adaptation of the Hubert Selby Jr. novel of the same name, Requiem for a Dream. While I'd list Black Swan as my favorite Aronofsky film, Requiem stands alone as a devastating look at the nature of addiction that, by its end credits, will assure you that nothing decent will ever happen to you again. The film netted the great Ellen Burstyn her sixth Academy Award nod while Jared Leto, Jennifer Connelly, and Marlon Wayans provided equally powerful performances as heroin addicts whose trajectories only bend downwards. While its story and characters offer little to be optimistic about, Requiem all but cemented Aronofsky's place among the most skilled and uncompromising filmmakers of his generation. If you haven't already, check out the film on Amazon Instant Video where it's available to stream. Just be sure you're not already in an emotionally fragile state or else you're in for a long night.

Aronofsky reflections aside, this week's Top 5 highlights the first teaser trailer for director Jonathan Liebesman's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, interviews for and Matt's review of Noah, the new trailer for X-Men: Days of Future Past, Sabotage interviews and Matt's review, and Steve's coverage of CinemaCon from Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. Keep reading for a brief recap and link to each of the above.

1. First Teaser Trailer for TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES

This week brought us the first teaser trailer for director Jonathan Liebesman's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and at first glance it looks to be what I had hoped for: a reboot aimed at kids that I can enjoy with my nephews while basking comfortably in my own nostalgia. While others may demand more, as someone who loved the Turtles as a kid I'm not comfortable asking for anything other than for this entry to give a new generation of youngsters their own Turtles movie to unabashedly love.

2. NOAH Interviews with Darren Aronofsky and More

I plan on catching a matinee screening of Noah tomorrow so, for now, there's little else I can offer on the film other than my own excitement. That in mind, I recommend checking out Matt's review if it's articulate reactions to the film that you seek or Steve's video interviews with Darren Aronofsky, Jennifer Connelly, and Logan Lerman if you prefer to avoid reviews prior to watching the film for yourself but still want to learn more about it.

3. New X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST Trailer

I've made no secret about the fact that I'm thrilled to see X-Men: Days of Future Past. The new trailer for the film that debuted this week has done nothing to diminish said excitement and, if possible, it may have even heightened it. The new poster that unveiled alongside the trailer? That's another story all together. May this be a lesson that not all marketing is created equal, folks.

4. SABOTAGE Interviews with Arnold Schwarzenegger and More

As someone who loved writer/director David Ayer's End of Watch, I had high hopes for his follow-up actioner, Sabotage, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sam Worthington. While reviews for the film seem to indicate that my hopes have been dashed, I still have Sabotage on my rental list because Ayer and Schwarzenegger is a combination that I'm not willing to easily dismiss. For more on Sabotage, check out Matt's review and Christina's text interviews with Arnold Schwarzenegger, David Ayer, and Joe Manganiello.

5. CinemaCon 2014 Coverage

This past week, Caesars Palace in Las Vegas played host to CinemaCon 2014 (i.e. Comic-Con for theater owners). As he's been known to do, Steve was right in the thick of things at the convention, doing his level best to cover the event for those of us who are interested in its happenings but unable to attend. You can click here for all of his CinemaCon 2014 coverage or check out some of my personal favorites such as his video blog recap with Badass Digest's Devin Faraci and this exclusive video interview with the great Kevin Costner.
