We’re now in the sixth week of the “Top 5” feature and I’m glad to report that it’s becoming popular enough that it looks as if I’m going to get to keep my job. Briefly, I’d like to thank the Academy (that doesn’t know I exist), my agent (that I don’t have), family and friends (luckily I have those), and the readers for making me a little less disposable than I was six weeks ago. Now, onto the important stuff.
In this week’s installment, you can find our exclusive Saturn Awards interview with Thomas Jane, a hilariously bizarre trailer for the 1990 Captain America film, our report from the Alamo Drafthouse’s Party Down marathon, Neil Gaiman talking American Gods on a book appearance celebrating the release of its 10th anniversary special hardcover edition, and our inaugural hosting of the For Your Consideration weekly video and audio podcast. Hit the jump for brief recaps and links to each.
1. Thomas Jane Talks HEADSHOT, THE LYCAN, His Glen Sherley Biopic, and More
In our exclusive interview with Thomas Jane, the actor addresses a range of topics such as The Lycan, his Glen Sherley biopic, and his overall future in Hollywood. He also has a very interesting theory for why he was fired from Sylvester Stallone and Walter Hill’s Headshot. Trust me, clicking here for the full interview is a good idea.
2. Fantastically Cheesy Trailer and Images from 1990’s CAPTAIN AMERICA
I was already counting down the days until Marvel’s Captain America: The First Avenger hits theaters on July 22nd. Now that I’ve watched this hilarious trailer for 1990’s version of Cap, I’m adding the film’s July 19th DVD release to my list of “days I’m really looking forward to in July”.
3. Neil Gaiman Discusses AMERICAN GODS, DOCTOR WHO, and More
Back in June, Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman announced that their Playtone Productions is planning a six-season adaptation of renowned author Neil Gaiman’s American Gods to air on HBO beginning as soon as 2013. On June 28th, our own Christina Radish was able to partake in a book appearance by the author where he discussed American Gods, writing an episode of Doctor Who, Farenheit 451 author Ray Bradbury, and more. 4. Collider Goes to the PARTY DOWN Marathon; Plus Cast/Creator Interview
During its tenure on-air, Starz’s original series Party Down suffered from a severe ratings deficiency that resulted in the consistently funny program calling it quits after only two seasons (comprised of twenty episodes). That said, the bright side of a series only having twenty episodes is that you can cram all of them into one sweet weekend hosted by the Alamo Drafthouse. Click here to read our report from the Party Down marathon which also includes an interview with the cast and creator Rob Thomas.
5. FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION Video Blog
The weekly video and audio podcast For Your Consideration now resides here at Collider. Click here to check out our inaugural installment whose topics of discussion include Transformers: Dark of the Moon, a potential Toy Story 4, The Three Musketeers, and Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol.
