In last week’s “Top 5″ I spent the opening paragraph musing about my anticipation for Steven Soderbergh‘s Haywire. I also promised the readers a quick “Before & After” discussion this week which would address whether or not the pic lived up to my expectations. Well, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but said discussion will have to be postponed. I know, I know, I’m disappointed too. Fear not, though, I’m slated to check out the film tonight which means that I’ll be able to deliver on my promise, albeit a week late. In the meantime…

…This week’s “Top 5″ installment brings you interviews with the cast of Underworld: Awakening and the aforementioned Haywire, a gallery of recent films in retro poster form, an ultra-disturbing Rugrats live-action trailer, and all of our Sundance 2012 coverage to date. Hit the jump for a brief recap and link to each.

1. Kate Beckinsale, Michael Ealy, and More Talk UNDERWORLD: AWAKENING

Kate Beckinsale UNDERWORLD 5 and TOTAL RECALL interview slice

Okay, I admit that I’ve seen more entries in the Twilight franchise than the Underworld franchise (1-0, to be exact). As disappointed as I am in myself, I would like to say that if a time ever comes where I have to choose vampire sides (or any sides for that matter) I’m taking Kate Beckinsale/Selene over, well, everyone. If you feel similarly, then I recommend checking out Steve’s Underworld: Awakening video interviews with Beckinsale, Michael Ealy, India Eisley and Theo James.

2. Gina Carano, Michael Fassbender, Ewan McGregor, and Channing Tatum Talk HAYWIRE

There are several reasons why I’m looking forward to Haywire (i.e. Soderbergh’s slick action and its apparent “B-Movie” feel). That said, its stellar cast is definitely near the top of my list. Chances are, if you throw Michael Fassbender and Ewan McGregor in the same film, I’m going to want to see it. Add Michael Douglas and Antonio Banderas into the mix and all of a sudden I’m even willing to give Channing Tatum a fair shake. If we’re on the same page and you’d like to hear from many of the above mentioned names then I suggest checking out our interviews with star Gina Carano, Michael Fassbender, Ewan McGregor, and Channing Tatum. In case you missed it, you can also read Matt’s review of the pic by clicking here.

3. Recent Films Get the Retro Poster Treatment

Kudos to artist Peter Stults for putting together a gallery of posters that uniquely combines some of the most memorable films of late with the nostalgia of classics gone by. Not only do I love the idea of James Dean kicking a baddie’s head in (I’m sick, I know) but I’d also be like five times more likely to enjoy a William Shatner-led Avatar based on pure comic value alone. Well done, Mr. Stults. Well done.

4. Live-Action RUGRATS Trailer Will Destroy Your Childhood

Go ahead, take a look at the above image of live-action Chuckie Finster and not feel uncomfortable. That’s right, it’s not possible. If you have any sort of fond memories for the classic Nickelodeon series Rugrats, and don’t mind kissing all of them goodbye in one fell swoop, then I strongly urge you to check out this live-action Rugrats trailer.

5. Sundance 2012 Coverage
