Topher Grace has signed on to co-star with Richard Gere in Michael Brandt’s upcoming thriller, The Double.  According to Screen Daily, “The Double centers on a retired CIA operative who partners with a young FBI agent to investigate the murder of a US senator that bears the hallmarks of a Soviet assassin long believed to be dead.”  Dammit!  What’s the point of winning the Cold War when there are still Soviet assassins running about?

The Double will be Brandt’s directorial debut.  He previously wrote the screenplay for Wanted and 3:10 to Yuma.  He co-wrote The Double with writing partner Derek Haas.  Filming is set to begin this June in Detroit.

Executive vice-president of production Patrick Aiello will produce along with Haas, Industry Entertainment’s Andrew Deane, and Hyde Park Chairman Ashok Amritraj.  Hit the jump for some quotes from Brandt and Amritraj.

“Michael and Derek are extremely savvy and gifted writers whose style has raised the bar in Hollywood over the last few years,” Amritraj said. “They are exactly the calibre of talent that Hyde Park and Imagenation Abu Dhabi are looking to partner with, and we look forward to working with Michael on his directorial debut.”

“Derek and I have been working towards this, and finally getting behind the camera and working with actors like Richard Gere and Topher Grace is a dream come true,” Brandt said. “Ashok and Patrick have been supportive every step of the way. I’m a big fan of spy thrillers like The Conversation, Three Days Of The Condor, and No Way Out, and hope we can continue the tradition of those great films.”

I like Topher Grace. I think he has potential to have a decent career in Hollywood. I am anxious to see him in Predators as well. Should be an interesting role. I am not too big of a fan of Gere, but I have to respect Brandt's screenplay abilities. This will be a renter and not a theater though.

    T. Grace was so great in ” Traffic” & “In Good Company”. I thought he would immediately have a fast track movie. But, for some reason his movie career just stalled. I agree, he has potential.
