Teaser for the Teaser Trailer for TOTAL RECALL

     March 27, 2012

A 45-second teaser trailer for the Total Recall teaser trailer has gone online.  I was hoping we could get a 15-second teaser for the 45-second teaser, and maybe even a 5-second teaser for the 15-second teaser, but maybe one day that highly possible dream will become a reality.  However, this teaser-teaser does provide the first footage from Len Wiseman‘s remake of Paul Verhoeven‘s 1990 sci-fi film.  As you can see, the movie is jam-packed with cars from Demolition Man and Cerberus troops from Mass Effect.  There are also explosions.

Hit the jump to check out the teaser for the teaser trailer along with the official synopsis.  The movie stars Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale, Jessica Biel, John Cho, Ethan Hawke, and Bryan Cranston.  The full trailer premieres on April 1st on ABC during the Celtics-Heat game.  An extended trailer will then premiere on Apple.  Total Recall opens August 3rd.

Here’s the press release.  I’ve bolded the synopsis:

CULVER CITY, Calif., March 27, 2012 – Moviegoers will begin their Recall experience on Sunday, April 1, as Columbia Pictures debuts the trailer for the highly anticipated action thriller Total Recall during the NBA game between the Boston Celtics and the Miami Heat broadcast nationally on ABC, it was announced today by Marc Weinstock, president of Worldwide Marketing for Sony Pictures. Total Recall will be released in theaters nationwide on August 3, 2012

The world premiere of the Total Recall trailer will air during the first half of the game and will be promoted with tune-ins in the week leading up to the game.

Following the trailer’s premiere on ABC, a special extended trailer will debut online at www.apple.com/trailers.

The trailer will also launch simultaneously in over 30 countries on broadcast and online outlets.

Commenting on the announcement, Weinstock said, “We’re thrilled to be working with the NBA and ABC to give millions of fans all across the country this exciting first look at the trailer.”

Total Recall is an action thriller about reality and memory, inspired anew by the famous short story “We Can Remember It For You Wholesale” by Philip K. Dick. Welcome to Rekall, the company that can turn your dreams into real memories. For a factory worker named Douglas Quaid (Colin Farrell), even though he’s got a beautiful wife (Kate Beckinsale) whom he loves, the mind-trip sounds like the perfect vacation from his frustrating life – real memories of life as a super-spy might be just what he needs. But when the procedure goes horribly wrong, Quaid becomes a hunted man. Finding himself on the run from the police – controlled by Chancellor Cohaagen (Bryan Cranston) – there is no one Quaid can trust, except possibly a rebel fighter (Jessica Biel) working for the head of the underground resistance (Bill Nighy).  The line between fantasy and reality gets blurred and the fate of his world hangs in the balance as Quaid discovers his true identity, his true love, and his true fate.  The film is directed by Len Wiseman. The screenplay is by Kurt Wimmer and Mark Bomback and the screen story is by Ronald Shusett & Dan O’Bannon and Jon Povill. The producers are Neal H. Moritz and Toby Jaffe.

Also, if you think I’m being unfair to the look of the vehicles and troops, here’s a picture of a car from 1993: Demolition Man:

And here’s a car from Total Recall:

Here’s a Cerberus soldier from 2010′s Mass Effect 2:

    where’s the teaser?

Matt’s April fools joke gone wrong is what should be the tagline of the article.

  • Oskars

Maybe that is the same design team, who are responsible for the other work, such as Demolition man and Mass effect.

  • Tarek

It looks like total recall. Am I wrong ?

  • Curbcooler

Sony must think that just because The Bourne Legacy doesn’t have Matt Damon that some how Total Recall can trump it on that same august release date. But either Sony or Universal better blink and flinch fast because there is no way two movies this big can come out on August 3rd. But I do have to say, when will Hollywood finally accept the fact that Collin Farrell is NOT a box office draw? Everyone in the trade world had that same conversation when Fright Night flopped. With all the box office bombs he’s been in the past few years I can’t comprehend It. What I think is going on here is because of Collin Farrels look, Hollywood is shocked that he isn’t a bigger box office star. But one thing these studios have to accept is that eventually your gonna have to be able to offer more than just a hot body if you want to stay a big worldWide success. Something Lautner, Efron, Reynolds, and now Kitsch, all learned the hard way. And let’s face it Collin Farrell is no Will Smith, Johnny Depp, Robert Downey, or Denzel Washington. Those four guys are real worldwide box office draws.

    • Ur mom

Yeah, both movies come out before my birthday. I rather spend my day watching The Bourne Legacy. More interesting to me anyways. :)

  • mattedscreen

The only thing this trailer makes me recall is the kick ass Arnold movie.

If you are comparing what the cars look like then how about Back to the future 2. which look a hell of a lot more like the cars in this teaser than the cars from demolition man.

After your comments on MEW and now TMNT why do you work here MATT? I really do understand why people hate you on this site.

  • mass

lol, I’m going to laugh my ass off if this tries to be serious.

I liked the 1990s one, actually pretty amusing, in the good way.

    • Joe

“lol, I’m going to laugh my ass off if this tries to be serious.”

What’s it’s supposed to be? Philip K. Dick’s story is a fairly serious piece, unlike that over the top, silly dreck Arnold made.

  • Mike

Since when did anyone get excited about a trailer for a trailer? It’s like going to work and having a pre-meeting meeting for the pre-meeting meeting.

    This actually looks pretty good!

I hope they actually don’t stay too close to the original movie. The weird wanna-be Yoda mutant and stuff like that — they can keep that stuff out.

oh joy, they make teasers FOR TEASERS now…whats next, teaser rumours for rumour casting announcements too?
this trailer looks exactly like how i dreaded it..it looks incredibly derivative of other science fiction films and completely without identity. if i had not known this was for total recall, i’d have thought the teaser clips were rejected cgi footage from the 6th day and fifth element. this looks like a train wreck.

    • Joe

Oh great, another worthless parrot on the internet. This looks like a trainwreck? Give me a break dumbass. You’ve seen 15 seconds of great looking footage and you’re attacking it because it’s a remake, just like everyone else. I sincerely doubt you would know a good film if it sat on your face and wiggled. So do everyone a favor and shut the hell up.

You are a perfect example of the idiots and assclowns that populate the internet and think they’re cool.

There’s only one problem you douche nozzle. The cars in Total Recall look absolutely nothing like the car in Demolition Man. Are you frickin’ blind.

Jesus Christ on a crack, you are the worst kind of internet writer. Are you truly stupid enough to think that designs are wholly original dumbass? I could take designs from every movie ever made, and find similar designs in comic books or video games. Only you would whine about such a thing. Then again, you’ve been unnecessarily shitting on this film from day one, all because you love the B-Grade shlock from the ’80s filled with bad acting, bad dialogue, and cheesy one-liners. The way you’ve gone on about this film, you’d think Arnold’s original was some sort of filmmaking mecca. Well, it wasn’t.

    • andres

I don’t get y so many ppl bitch on matts articles, how about not reading them ? But I guess whining about his whining makes a lot of sense…. Hey Joe GTFO

    • mattinacan

the only idiot and assclown on here is you Joe… douche nozzle

    • jazzy jace

Maybe Matt has a family of douche nozzles to feed, hence the God awful articles he comes up with.

    • santasa

Actually it was, it’s cult film, at least to those who escaped growing up on Transformers and Battle for LA.
But it will look all flashy and shiny, with couple of megatons in explosions and few millions of fired rounds, etc…..
I hope Kate will give us some good performance, if nothing else.

  • terry

Flimsy a$$ Colin and Underworld whipped and exhausted Kate….
    Looks like trash!
And were those Star Wars robots she was walking with?
They should have done this with John Sena ands Jessica Alba. Damn! That would have rocked!

  • yo_momz

Thanks for posting those pics. Its a Len Wiseman vehicle so it will be shiny, recycled garbage – there isn’t much left to say. It is a shame that they had to use PKD for source material.

I really loved the original…just for the novelty & source material…but I want this to work.

I guess I’m one of the opposites on the board that digs Collin Farrell & thinks that Will Smith is Will Smith in every film outside of Pursuit of Happiness.

Sorry…just not a Willer. I like him & all…but he is the Fresh Prince grown up as a “wise cracker”…I mean how many times can the man spout “Nah, nah” in the middle of every line he utters?

    Anywho…Farrell needs a break.

His gigs in Parnassus, London Boulevard, Phone Booth, In Bruges, Miami Vice, & were great as was his role in Minority Report. I just don’t get the hate & why (as curbeater said) CF can’t pull a rabbit outta his ass.

The guy’s got chops…no doubt…but there’s something there that just doesnt click with the everydayers in the box office huts.

Also…I thougth Fright Night was great & his version of Jerry was scurry & ten times that of Sarandon’s. Sorry…I just dugit.

  • Lulzatron

Sometimes I think Matt’s #1 priority is too go against the grain. After he defended Michael Bay in regards to TMNT, I don’t know how I could be wrong.

  • santasa

It looks all too good, I am afraid it will lack substance which Verhoeven brings in all his films ! (Good soundtrack though)

  • zevyc

I was one of the soldiers in the movie last summer. It looks pretty good, but I don’t think its gonna be better than the original
