New Full-Length Trailer for TOTAL RECALL

     June 27, 2012

A new theatrical trailer for director Len Wiseman’s Total Recall remake has been released.  This trailer includes quite a few nods to the 1990 Arnold Schwarzenegger-fronted iteration of the story, with everyone’s favorite three-breasted woman making an appearance (kind of).  There are a couple of groan worthy one-liners that are apparently a requirement for 90% of action movies, but I’m hoping Colin Farrell’s charisma will outweigh the dialogue flaws.  The sci-fi world that Wiseman’s built here looks impressive, and we definitely get the sense that there are going to be a lot of action sequences to marvel at.  I’m interested to see what makes Wiseman’s remake a story worth telling and not just a rehash of the original, so hopefully this Total Recall’s a fun ride.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer, and if you missed any of Steve’s set visit coverage click here.  The film also stars Kate Beckinsale, Jessica Biel, and Bryan CranstonTotal Recall opens on August 3rd.

Here’s the synopsis for Total Recall:

Total Recall is an action thriller about reality and memory, inspired anew by the famous short story “We Can Remember It For You Wholesale” by Philip K. Dick. Welcome to Rekall, the company that can turn your dreams into real memories. For a factory worker named Douglas Quaid (Colin Farrell), even though he’s got a beautiful wife (Kate Beckinsale) who he loves, the mind-trip sounds like the perfect vacation from his frustrating life – real memories of life as a super-spy might be just what he needs. But when the procedure goes horribly wrong, Quaid becomes a hunted man. Finding himself on the run from the police – controlled by Chancellor Cohaagen (Bryan Cranston), the leader of the free world – Quaid teams up with a rebel fighter (Jessica Biel) to find the head of the underground resistance (Bill Nighy) and stop Cohaagen. The line between fantasy and reality gets blurred and the fate of his world hangs in the balance as Quaid discovers his true identity, his true love, and his true fate.

If the 3-titted gal is in, then I’m in!

  • Dan S.

No Mars = no interest for me. Plus vague faceless enemies. Meh.

  • Tey

    Looks pretty good! I’m in!

  • Griz

This looks seriously awesome . . . . . i haven’t actually been this excited over a movie since the Prometheus trailer (curse you, ridley scott!)

And i have to say, even though i gave up on Kate Beckinsale’s underworld character around the same time i stopped watching Resident evil sequels, but her character in this movie seems VERY badass. . . and “i give good wife” is officially my new favorite one-liner!

  • Sugreev2001

The most unnecessary remake ever, and that’s saying something.I’m only interested in Bryan Cranston as the villain, but living to Ronny Cox’s original is going to be hard even with his amazing talent. Finally, both Jessica Biel and Colin Farrell are almost proven box office poison – Was the studio head out of his mind when he greenlit this with a $200 m budget !?

    • Boss

Ronny Cox was obnoxious and yelly in the original. And frankly so was everything else. Just because a remake may be nothing special, doesn’t mean that people have to hype up everything from the original undeservedly. The original is unintentional comedy, and barely anything more.

    • Agent_Black

Technically, this is not a remake. It’s an adaptation of a Phillip K Dick novel. Did Chris Nolan ‘remake’ Tim Burton’s Batman? No, they just took the source material and made a movie.

Secondly, speaking of a massive fan of Paul Verhoeven, the 1st adaptation of this story and the make-up of Rob Bottin, after recently watching Total Recall whilst I found the visual effects to be dated and the sets quite obvious. Even Arnie didn’t go to Mars, he ran around the same studio set that was made to look bigger. At the time it was spectacular, now it looks a bit fake.

I also found the story to be lacking, it was chase followed by guns by explosions by chase. I still like that film very much for all it’s flaws, but there’s nothing wrong ‘updating the story for a new audience’

      • amok

It’s a remake. It copies the whole setup and lots of scenes from the Schwarzenegger movie which had only very vague resemblance to the novel.

      • Marky

learn your source material you twat – in the book he goes to MArs

      • Joe

“learn your source material you twat – in the book he goes to MArs”

You’re a clueless idiot. They do not go to Mar in the original story. There are only vague memories of Mars.

    • Joe

Oh please! I can name ten remakes off the top of my head that are far more unnecessary than this one you whiny little twat. As for Ronnie Cox, he isn’t fit to stand in Bryan Cranston’s shadow.

yea this doesn’t look very good, the world does look impressive though, i hate the recall room scene where he shoots like 8 dudes, the irobot looking enemies, just looks weak all around.

    • Joe

LOL! Keep grasping at straws dumbass. It looks great an you know it.

  • filmmaniac111

Yeah I’d rather watch The Bourne Legacy. This might be okay but TBL should be great. Tony Gilroy knows how to make a clever more-than-popcorn action film.
On the other hand, the dialogue seems horrible for this :/ At least Colin Ferrel is a good actor.

    • filmmaniac111

*Gilroy hasn’t directed any action film but he wrote the scripts for the trilogy :)

    • Boss

Bourne is no longer opening on the same day.

Vilos Cohaagen is the one who knocks. But yeah, I’ll probably go see this, if only because Bourne isn’t opening on the same day anymore.

  • Farzan

The first trailer was better than this one. That said, it still doesn’t look exciting or cool like the original. They even copied the same dialogue except its coming out of someone else’s mouth instead of Arnolds. I’ll wait for The Bourne movie

  • Arnold

In this trailer, it says coming soon, does that mean that it might change release date. If it does, hopefully they’d push the release date earlier before TDKR o push back to September cuz i really want my fav BOURNE LEGACY to succeed so we can see damon and renner team-up.

  • LP

What the heck happened to the music? It’s all booming percussion and SFX hits synced video. Is this the next stage of trailer score? Where’s my apocalyptic choir and brassy orchestra?

Footage looks good. Though I wish they didn’t reveal the twist with the wife. For any newcomers who hasn’t seen the original, it would have been a good plot twist.

  • Michael Horne

That’s a great trailer. I like that they used a large portion of the first trailer – continuity AND not giving too much away (unlike Prometheus). It still feels like Minority Report 2, but perhaps I actually like that it could be the same world, only dirtier. The action looks well executed and the odd line here or there that references the original will bring intentional chuckles in the cinema. They don’t go to Mars? Well, it’s a shame, but in the original story, he never actually went to Mars. I suspect Mars will still feature as part of the memory implant at Rekall, but if it doesn’t it still looks like there’s enough good SFX and well directed action sequences to satisfy most sci-fi fans

  • GunsOfNavarone

To all the people saying this isn’t a remake, can you answer me the following question : If it isn’t a like-for-like remake, why do they have the woman with 3 breasts? Wasn’t her mutation due to the atmosphere on Mars? So if they’re not on Mars any more….

I’m sure you see where I am going. This just isn’t enough of it’s own adaption for me. It would be like remaking Spiderman and having all the scenes from Raimi’s re-shot but just with different aesthetics.

  • Lob Taylor

Seriously if anyone greenlit this for $200 mil the person(s) needs to be fired. This is not gonna make that much. The original was awesome this copy is just okay. I might see this in theatre or on dvd am just not gonna go out of my way for this.

    • Joe

Please do me a favor and shut the fuck up. The original was overrated, B-movie crap filled with atrocious dialogue and poor acting.

  • sachin

This New Theatrical Trailer As Well As New Total Recall Looks………EPIC.

Kate Beckinsdale. Marry a film director…. get lots of work. what a whore

    • Joe

LOL! Kate Beckinsale was a successful actress long before she met her husband you dumb bastard. She has starred in over 30 films, only 4 of which her husband had anything to do with. She just recently shot a film with Nick Nolte and James Cromwell, which here husband was not involved with. She shot Contraband with Mark Wahlberg, which her husband has nothing to do with. So shut the fuck and shove your jealousy straight up your ass. Why would you care what film Kate Beckinsale starred in you dumb swine? I don’t see you whining about Helena-Bonham Carter starring in every single movie her partner Tim Burton directs.

      You asshat!

  • J-rad

Anybody saying this is a straight remake of Arnies Total Recall is either blind or ignorant. They dont go to Mars ! Thats all you need to know for it to not be called a remake.

Fanboys are the worst and seem to forget that a large variety of movies come from other source materials ( Like Total Recall ) and a different take on the same source material story is not a remake. Re-imagining sure , reboot fine but not a remake. So stop comparing which is the better take on the material before even seeing this.

This looks to be a slick action movie with some talented actors so it may just work. I like what I have seen. I for one am hoping they pull it off and give us a solid summer action flick

    • mattinacan

it doesn’t look very good and it is a remake. you are the worst just for using the phrase ‘fanboy’.

  • Jon

Everyone needs to quit talking about how great the original is. It was cool for it’s time, but it doesn’t hold up. It’s practically a B-movie. Go back and watch Schwarzenegger’s hits from this period: Commando, The Running Man, Total Recall. I loved them when I was a kid and I’ll still watch them now, but only because of nostalgia. They’re really not that good.

And what’s this crap about I’d rather see insert-other-movie? You’re allowed to see more than one movie in a summer, and you’re not required to see them only on opening day.

if anyone bothered to actually READ the SHORT STORY its a whopping 20 pages you would see that barely anything that happens in verhovens film actually happens in the book. Including going to god dam mars. There are more scenes in this trailer that are straight outta the old movie and aren’t in the story. So its pretty safe to say its a remake.

    • mattdibz

and also, it looks F’in fantastic.

  • Chad

WGA gives story credit to Jon Povill, who also had story credit on the 1990 film. So yes, this is more or less a remake, if it’s using enough of the original film’s story to warrant credit.

  • Sotos

I wish somebody would make an original adaptation. it would take too much money. Because it doesn’t need all these special effects. It could be made for 50 million tops. And it was smart and had the perfect ending that no one saw coming.

  • Joe

Wait a minute! Adam Chitwood is complaining about the one liners in this trailer? This is the same asshat who extols the virtues of the original film, and it is filled to the brim with the most ridiculous and cheesy one-liners in film history, as well as Arnold’s atrocious acting.
What a hypocrite. The two one-liners in that trailer are 10 times better than the best one-liner in the original.
