I know I should have zero interest in Tower Heist.  It’s directed by Brett Ratner, it has Ben Stiller playing a straight man, and Eddie Murphy hasn’t done a good comedy this century, but I have to admit that the trailer got a couple laughs out of me although they weren’t from Stiller or Murphy.  The movie’s got a great supporting cast that includes Michael Peña, Casey Affleck, Matthew Broderick, and Alan Alda, but the biggest laugh in the trailer comes from watching Gabourey Sidibe (Precious) hit on Murphy.  I also have to mention that this and Horrible Bosses share the message that if you’re interested in committing a crime, ask a black guy (preferably one who was in Dreamgirls).

Hit the jump to check out the trailer as well as the new poster.  Tower Heist opens November 4th. [Update: We've added five new images from the film and replaced the poster with a hi-res version]

Here’s the official synopsis for Tower Heist:

Ben Stiller and Eddie Murphy lead an all-star cast in Tower Heist, a comedy caper about working stiffs who seek revenge on the Wall Street swindler who stiffed them.  After the workers at a luxury Central Park condominium discover the penthouse billionaire has stolen their retirement, they plot the ultimate revenge: a heist to reclaim what he took from them.

Queens native Josh Kovacs (Stiller) has managed one of the most luxurious and well-secured residences in New York City for more than a decade.  Under his watchful eye, nothing goes undetected.  In the swankiest unit atop Josh’s building, Wall Street titan Arthur Shaw (Alan Alda) is under house arrest after being caught stealing two billion from his investors.  The hardest hit among those he defrauded?  The tower staffers whose pensions he was entrusted to manage.

With only days before Arthur gets away with the perfect crime, Josh’s crew turns to petty crook Slide (Murphy) to plan the nearly impossible…to steal what they are sure is hidden in Arthur’s guarded condo.  Though amateurs, these rookie thieves know the building better than anyone.  Turns out they’ve been casing the place for years, they just didn’t know it.

  1. This looks extremely awesome. Not a falling-down-laughing-out-loud comedy, rather an entertaining story that has some comedy in just the right places.

    • You guys act like Brett Ratner is Uwe Boll or something. I rather enjoyed the Rush Hour series and Red Dragon, both of which he directed. It’s like an everlasting grudge held on him from when he directed X3….let it go peoples. Id be putting alot the blame for X3 on Fox and not Ratner. What I’m saying is this movie has a chance to be good….especially with the talent involved. The best thing about it is seeing Eddie Murphy back to doing real comedy and not that kiddie crap! Hallelujah!

  2. This looks excellent. Still would have been better with an all black cast, but this looks really, really interesting and I think it hits on a lot of pertinent issues.
