To say that I’m disappointed by the trailer for Paul Greengrass’ upcoming film, “Green Zone”, would be an understatement. What you’re essentially getting is a 4th Jason Bourne movie. And yes, the direction looks amazing and I’m sure Matt Damon, Amy Ryan, and Greg Kinnear will all do a good job. But I’ve seen this movie twice already from Greengrass. By choosing this direction, he’s missed a golden opportunity to do something fresh and different because the source material, Rajiv Chandrasekaran’s “Imperial Life in the Emerald City”, is not an action-packed thriller. It’s in the vein of “Catch-22” and made all the more absurd by the fact that it’s all true. Maybe it’s because I attached my expectations to this film but I’m feeling a bit deflated since it looks like all we’re getting is a thrilling action movie. That’s fine but it could have been so much more.
