When I spoke to Mark Wahlberg in July when he was promoting The Other Guys, he told me The Fighter was “the best film that I’ve been in.” After watching the just released trailer, I think he’s probably right.
The Fighter is directed by David O. Russell (Nailed, Three Kings) and it’s based on the unbelievable but true story of boxer “Irish” Micky Ward and his half-brother Dicky. Starring Mark Wahlberg, Christian Bale, Amy Adams and Melissa Leo, the film looks to be a sure bet come awards season as Bale looks like he’s undergone a physical transformation that has to be seen to be believed.
Trust me. Watch the trailer. You’ll wish you could see the movie today. The Fighter gets released December 10.
watch in HD on Apple

just send the awards this way
It certainly looks like a winner. Bale is a lunatic as usual. Walhberg seems oscar worthy almost. This very well could be his best film. He’s so effin buff. The music in this trailer was nice but it didn’t get to me.
Looks like Bale might steal all of Wahlberg’s thunder.
Crap!!! This is the 2nd movie where Mark played an over the hill sports personality. Remember that football movie he did? Yeah, I don’t either. The movie plays like Rocky regardless of the Based on a true story claim.
Looks great! Very much looking forward to this one.
Said it before and ill say it again. Christian Bale is fucking awesome.
Bale hasnt got long to beef up for Batman again before filming. I know he did it once for Batman begins from skeleton to Superhero, but I think if he does THAT again, he will fuck himself right up! Cant be healthy!
This film looks good though, I need to see a new film where Bale doesnt irritate me wih his shouty-lisp thing. Maybe this is it.
Another flat performance from Marky Mark, and a better than Dark Knight performance from Bale.
If Christian gets alot of air time in this, it might be worth a Netflix rental.
WOWW Steve, are you sure? I hated the trailer. Not only shows all the film, but it does show that the movie in really predictable and this story has been told again and again and again before. A truly disapointment. Just boring.
looks entirely predictable to me….which doesn’t mean it’s not watchable, it’ll just leave the standard been-there-done-that flavour in your mouth at the end
Is it just me or isnt this just Rocky 2010
walberg’s best is Boogie Nights or maybe even I heart Huckabees, he looks pretty good here but I’m hoping O’Russell does something amazing with the same old story we’ve seen a million times, interest peaked by not blown away
the attachment of O. Russel as a director interests me on this. he’s a douche as a person but i really like Three Kings. then the attachment on Bale made me want to really wait for this on DVD. but seeing Bale’s performance on the trailer changes my mind completely… I’ll watch this on a theatre. and it’s on my “movies i really want to watch this year”. man, Bale keeps me watching the trailer over and over.
Mark Wahlberg is interesting here too but Bale is the star, even just from the clips from the trailer. hopefully, he’ll get his first acting nomination at the Oscars. maybe even the win
The Departed? i mean come on. “My theory’s on fed is they’re like mushroom. feed them shit and keep them in the dark.” that’s an awesome performance. i think that’s his best performance. such commanding screen presence.
ps. i agree with what everybody has said, the film looks predictable. but Bale’s performance needs to be seen. the buzz on the Best Supporting Actor looks to be worthy.
I agree with some of the other comments, the film looks totally predictable and not really noteworty (just my opinion). It just looks boring and will probably run alot longer than the story needs too. Walberg’s performance looks flat, so far, but only from what I can tell of the trailer. As for Bale, I enjoy alot of his movies, but he is a serious method actor. Losing all that weight (because, just in my opinion guys, he is trying to get an Oscar is dangerous to your health. If he was up for one it would only be supporting anyway. Walberg is billed as the star of the movie.) I truly don’t see this movie being up for anything at Oscar time. I enjoyed the movie about John Dillinger, with Depp and Bale, and it got nothing.

@ Shelew
but Public Enemies is a weak movie to be recognized by awardgivin bodies. i mean, don’t get me wrong, i love the action sequences on that film. the HD cam really made you feel you WERE THERE. but other than that, nothing was memorable. i still think the movie is good, but it’s a forgettable(beyond the action scenes). even Depp didn’t reall do anything to excite the screen. i was hoping Mann’s direction would be as good as his best this decade(Colateral). the only thing that didn’t dissapoint was Bale, and he wasnt in the screen that long.
I agree with you. I did like Colateral, one of Mann’s best this decade. I thought Bale was good in the movie, he should have been nominated then also. One my husband truly loves and I myself thought was remarkable was American Psycho. Bale showed how talented he was in that one. He wasn’t nominated then either. I think Robert Downey Jr is gifted, Johnny Depp, Christian Bale and many others. However, I believe that the Oscars are rigged to choose who they wish. Most actors that win shouldn’t. I also believe that the Academy holds an actor’s past against them as well. Do you think they do ? Robert Downey Jr has had past addiction issues and was in prison. Johnny Depp has had drug problems also. River Phoenix died outside The Viper Room owned by Johnny – that was a known drug haven. Johnny was also arrested twice for battery and in jail twice. Now Christian Bale is said to have anger, mental and violence problems ? Other gifted actors have had bad past – but that shouldn’t keep them from winning the awards they deserve, but it always does. As much as I loved Heath Ledger in Batman (and I truly did). ( In my opinion only -sorry ) I don’t think he would have won an Oscar for his performance – because some of his problems with drugs (perscription ) and mental issues were already becoming known. Now 2 years later, I think the Academy gave it to him to appease a morning public. The Academy just doesn’t give awards for comic book portrayals, never has. Christian Bale was fabulous in the Dark Knight also. Yet , again was over looked. It will be interesting to see if the Academy recognizes his performance in this one, or how hard he transformed himself for the role. We can all hope they see his performance. It would be nice if all the great actors got the awards they deserve. (As much as I like Sandra Bullock, I am still trying to figure out how she got an Oscar – while people like Bale, Depp, Downey, Dicaprio and Clooney haven’t.)
Sorry Christopher, I said Bale was in Colateral. I meant to say I did enjoy Cruise in it. ( I said Bale was in it, I worded that wrong – forgive me – my mental lapse for today.)
Bale is going to really start harming his body doing all this weight gain/weight loss one of these days.
Just can never get past Wahlberg’s voice…the pitch just makes his acted emotions seem fake and weak. Who knows how an actor gets the green light by the powers to go A list, but Wahlberg always seems one level out of his comfort zone with some scenes even cringingly embarrassing.
Tiiiight~ Agreed. Might be the best film for walhber. This makes me wanna hit the gym, lol
