The first teaser trailer for Trainspotting 2 has landed online. The long-developing sequel finally became a reality when director Danny Boyle was able to reunite the original cast for a story based on author Irvine Welsh’s follow-up novel Porno, and now the first (very brief) footage has been unveiled in a teaser trailer. This teaser is more of an announcement really, as it should excite fans who weren’t aware that a sequel was actually happening, giving us our first look at Renton (Ewan McGregor), Spud (Ewan Bremner), Sick Boy (Jonny Lee Miller), and Begbie (Robert Carlyle) back together again.

It’s unclear how closely the story of T2: Trainspotting will follow Welsh’s novel, but Porno finds the gang reunited against the backdrop of the pornography business rather than the heroin world. There’s a bit of a Clerks 2 vibe here in that Boyle has talked up the prospect of picking up with these characters a couple of decades later and seeing how little they’ve managed to change, and I'm curious to see if there's been much evolution or maturity in their lives since the trials and tribulations of Trainspotting.

Boyle is just coming off the sorely underrated Steve Jobs, and I’m eager to see him back in this world. He’s reuniting with cinematographer Anthony Dod Mantle, who won an Oscar for his work on Slumdog Millionaire with Boyle, so that's yet another reason to be excited for this one.

Again, this teaser isn’t much, but for fans of Trainspotting it’s neat nonetheless. Check it out below. Trainspotting 2 opens in U.K. theaters on January 27, 2017.
