Universal Pictures has set a release date for Judd Apatow’s next directorial effort Trainwreck.  The pic, which was written by and will star Amy Schumer, will open in theaters on July 24, 2015, just one week after the release of Batman vs. Superman and one week before Edgar Wright’s Marvel film Ant-Man starring Paul Rudd.  We learned a couple of months ago that Apatow had settled on Trainwreck as his follow-up to This Is 40, and the film marks Apatow’s first directorial feature that he did not write himself, though he did develop the project with Schumer before she wrote the script.  Schumer will star as “a basket case who tries to rebuild her life, but still to be found are her boyfriend, a best friend/co-worker and a parent.”

Schumer is a stand up comedian who is best known for writing and starring in the Comedy Central sketch series Inside Amy Schumer, which will air its second season this coming March.  Casting on Trainwreck is underway, so expect to hear more news about the project in the coming months.
