Robert Downey Jr. Hints at Return For IRON MAN 4

I’ve never really expected an Iron Man 4, however naive that may seem.  I really, really liked Iron Man 3.  So far, having not yet seen Guardians of the Galaxy, it’s my favorite film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.  And I had always sort of taken the hint that it was the final Iron Man installment for Robert Downey Jr.  It wrapped up his version of Tony Stark’s arc in a way that felt complete to me.  Also, anyone who’s paying attention knows that, exempting his appearance in Avengers: Age Of Ultron, he might be getting too expensive for Marvel.  Blockbuster dealmaking is a complicated game and once an actor is branded with a successful role it gets extremely expensive to keep them onboard after their initial contract expires.

But Robert Downey Jr. isn’t wiping his hands of a potential Iron Man 4 just yet.  Despite Gwyneth Paltrow’s prognostication that a 4th film isn’t in the cards (and Downey himself seeming noncommittal over a year ago), there still might be another go-around for Marvel and the original Tony Stark.  Hit the jump for more on the potential for Robert Downey Jr. returning to Iron Man 4.

Noel Fisher Talks TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES, The Many Pieces of His Motion Capture Suit, Tracker Mix-Ups, Michelangelo’s Passion for Pizza and More

Thanks to the rise of motion capture technology, we’ve got actors delivering killer performances, but essentially getting zero face time in major movies.  There were quite a few notable elements in that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles footage we caught in New York the other week, but the standout was absolutely Michelangelo.  Part of what made the material so much fun to watch was the humor, and a good deal of that falls on Mikey.  Noel Fisher may have had a lot to learn jumping into this one, but based on what we’ve seen thus far, he nailed it.

With Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles heading towards an August 8th debut, we got the chance to hop on the phone with Fisher to talk about bringing Mikey to life via motion capture, the many components of his motion capture suit, how much turtle lore makes it into the movie, the film’s very different take on familiar villains and loads more.   Catch the full interview after the jump.

When it premieres on October 5th, Season 4 of the Showtime drama series Homeland will be something of a reboot for the series, with Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) back in the field in the Middle East and Saul (Mandy Patinkin) working as a private contractor.  While at the Showtime portion of the TCA Press Tour, executive producer/writer Alex Gansa talked about saying goodbye to one of the shows favorite characters, how much the criticism of the show hurt, why they’re filming this season in Cape Town, South Africa, Carrie’s grieving period, getting the chance to comment on what is happening in the world, the status of the Brody family, and how they would define the show’s identity in Season 4.  Check out what they had to say after the jump, and be aware that there are some spoilers.

Marvel Announces May 3rd, 2018 Movie; Could This Be AVENGERS 3?

by     Posted 1 hour ago

avengers-3-release-date

Last week Marvel announced 5 Untitled Movies with release dates stretching all the way up until May of 2019.  At the time, I guessed that the one bearing the date of May 3rd, 2019 would be Avengers 3 since that franchise’s signature early May release date was missing from the 2018 slate and 2017 seemed just a bit too soon to get everyone together again.

I’m doing away with that theory at this point because Marvel just announced yet another film for May 4th, 2018.  That first week of May is Avengers territory and 2018 is one whole year sooner that the studio gets to trot out their most valuable IP.  It makes sense that they want as few gaps between these things as possible.  So now I’m going to guess that  Avengers 3 hits on May 4th, 2018.  Hit the jump for more on this potential Avengers 3 release date.

LAST VEGAS Sequel Moving Forward at CBS Films

CBS Films is moving forward with a Last Vegas sequel.  The 2013 Jon Turtletaub-directed comedy was a modest box office success last year, pulling in $134 million at the worldwide box office on a budget of just $28 million.  The cast was led by Robert De Niro, Kevin Kline, Morgan Freeman, and Michael Douglas in what was pitched as “The Hangover with old people”.  Deadline reports that David Diamond and David Weissman, whose resume includes The Family Man and Old Dogs, have been set to pen the script for the follow-up, taking over from the first film’s writer Dan Fogelman.  The plan is to bring Turtletaub and the entire main cast back, as the story will see the characters returning to their old stomping grounds in Brooklyn.  When they arrive, however, they discover that their home turf has changed significantly.

CBS Films is said to be moving “aggressively” on the Last Vegas sequel, so we should hear firm word about the cast and such in the coming months.  Laurence Mark and Amy Baer will return as producers.

The Rebellion Is Coming in THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY – PART 1 Comic-Con Poster

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire was one of the biggest panels of Comic-Con 2013, but Lionsgate has decided to forego much of the convention this year.  Instead, they’ve released a The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 Comic-Con poster along with their odd promotion to let fans see the new trailer on a Galaxy Tab S.  This Comic-Con poster isn’t anything special in part because it’s confusing.  The Capitol is supposed to stand for carefully designed order, but artist WK Interact just threw together a mishmash of authoritarian imagery like a barcode on a granite wall, and then plastered on the “Mockingjay” emblem as if some citizen was rebelling against a piece of street art.

Hit the jump to check out the The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 Comic-Con poster.  The film stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Donald Sutherland, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Jeffrey Wright, Stanley Tucci, Jena Malone, and Julianne MooreThe Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 opens in theaters on November 21st.

MAD MAX: FURY ROAD Poster Finds Delight in a Post-Apocalyptic Wasteland

Warner Bros. unveiled the first The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies poster earlier today in anticipation of the film’s upcoming Comic-Con panel, and now the studio has done the same for director George Miller’s highly anticipated Mad Max sequel/reboot.  The first Mad Max: Fury Road poster shows Tom Hardy’s titular character watching an impending onslaught of presumably brutal wastelanders, complete with the delightfully ironic tagline “What a Lovely Day”.  The images we’ve seen thus far from the pic have been wonderfully strange, and I’m really looking forward to seeing the first footage at the film’s Comic-Con panel this coming Saturday.

Opening in limited release this weekend is Woody Allen’s new film Magic in the Moonlight.  The romantic comedy is set in the south of France in the 1920s and stars Colin Firth as an Englishman brought in to help unmask a possible swindle, as a young woman (Emma Stone) claims to be able to communicate with spirits.  As he spends more time with the girl, however, he starts to wonder if she may not be a fraud after all.  The film also stars Eileen Atkins, Marcia Gay Harden, Hamish Linklater, Simon McBurney, and Jacki Weaver.  For more on the film watch the trailer.

A few days ago I landed an exclusive video interview with  Colin Firth.  He talked about making Magic in the Moonlight, working with Woody Allen, filming in France, shooting at the magic hour, working with Matthew Vaughn on Kingsman: The Secret Service and one of the very cool action sequences in the film,  doing his own stunts, Comic-Con, director Michael Grandage’s Genius with Jude Law, and so much more.  It’s a great interview so hit the jump to watch.

Make Money to Play the Lottery in the New NIGHTCRAWLER Trailer Starring Jake Gyllenhaal

Open Road Films has released a new Nightcrawler trailer along with the first poster.  Jake Gyllenhaal plays Lou Bloom, a young man who falls into the depths of L.A. crime journalism, and begins pushing the limits between covering the news and making it.  Following the intriguing viral teaser, this first official trailer makes the movie look like a must-see when it premieres at the Toronto International Film Festival in September.  Gyllenhaal has been on a hot streak lately, and his work in Nightcrawler looks like it could be a strong companion to his unnerving performances in his most recent film, Enemy.

Hit the jump to check out the new Nightcrawler trailer and poster.  The film opens October 17th, and also stars Rene Russo, Bill Paxton, and Riz Ahmed.

First THE HOBBIT: THE BATTLE OF THE FIVE ARMIES Poster Reveals a Dragon Standoff

Ahead of the film’s Comic-Con panel this coming Saturday, Warner Bros. has released the first The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies for director Peter Jackson’s concluding installment in his Hobbit trilogy.  This poster officially bills the film as “The Defining Chapter”, as the title tells us we’ll be privy to a pivotal battle that sets the Middle-earth stage for the events of The Lord of the Rings saga.  Though I’ve been a bit disappointed with the Hobbit films themselves, there’s no denying that this debut Battle of the Five Armies poster is pretty swell.  It depicts a fiery standoff between the nefarious dragon Smaug (voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch) and Luke Evans’ Bard the Bowman, and things do not look to be going great in Lake-Town.

Hit the jump to check out the first The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies poster in all its glory, and come back to Collider on Saturday for our full Comic-Con panel recap.  The film opens in theaters on December 17th.

Rob Reiner Talks AND SO IT GOES, His Slip’N Slide Stunt, Working with Michael Douglas and Diane Keaton, STAND BY ME, THIS IS SPINAL TAP and More

In the July 25th release, And So It Goes, Michael Douglas leads as Oren Little.  He lives in one unit of a waterfront fourplex he owns and he can’t stand a single tenant in any of the others.  He’s got zero compassion, no patience and doesn’t care about anyone, but himself.  Trouble is, when Oren’s got no choice but to be his granddaughter’s temporary guardian, he can’t do it alone.  He needs help and lucky for him, Leah’s (Diane Keaton) willing to look past his bad attitude and do what she can to help Sarah (Sterling Jerins).

Admittedly, my favorite part of this roundtable interview was telling director Rob Reiner my dog is named after Goride in Stand By Me and getting to hear about how he developed that character, but there’s also loads of interesting details on And So It Goes, too.  Hit the jump to catch Reiner talking about working with Keaton and Douglas, deciding to act in the film as well, his top priority while making his movies and much more.  And if you missed it, click here for Reiner’s thoughts on making a Princess Bride musical.

UNCHARTED Movie Release Date Set for June 10, 2016

uncharted-slice

Sony’s adaptation of their best-selling video game Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune has been in the works for years.  David O. Russell (Silver Linings Playbook) was attached several years ago, and after he left the project, Neil Burger (Divergent) stepped in, but he eventually dropped out as well.  Earlier this year, director Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses) signed on to direct, and last week he said he hopes to begin filming in early 2015.  Now, THR’s Borys Kit has tweeted that the Uncharted release date will be June 10, 2016.

For those unfamiliar with the franchise, it follow treasure hunter Nathan Drake, who is the descendant of famous explorer Sir Francis Drake.  The games carry a blockbuster attitude as they take the player around the wisecracking, Indiana Jones-inspired protagonist around the globe to find fabled cities like El Dorado and Shangri-La.  The Uncharted games are pretty much interactive movies if movies featured a hero who killed hundreds of people and had incredible dexterity.  They’re really fun.  Hit the jump to check out the trailer for the first game.
