Most of the time, finding out what a major A-list director is going to do next is a major scoop. But, occasionally, it’s as simple as reading his official website. So thanks to MichaelBay.com, we know Michael is figuring out what his next project will be. Acoording to the site, he’s either doing “Transformers 3”, “Bad Boys 3”, or “Pain & Gain”. More after the jump:
Here’s what the site reported:
I spoke to Michael today and he had a little update on his future projects:
— He will be meeting later this week with Steven Spielberg, and Ehren Kruger to discuss ideas for Transformers 3. By the end of the week he should have an idea if Transformers 3 will hit your local cineplex in the summer of 2011 or 2012.
— In the meantime “Pain & Gain” is looking very possible as is…
— …Bad Boys 3. Either film coming to a theater near you before or after Transformers 3.
The first thing to notice is Robert Orci and Alex Kurtzman are not mentioned…which means they’re probably not writing “Transformers 3”.
The other thing I’m taking away from the update is…I think if Ehren Kruger and Steven Spielberg have got a great idea for “TF3”, that might make the film get released in 2011. But if the idea isn’t a home-run, I think one of the others is going to go first. After all, while “Transformers 2” made almost 1 billion dollars worldwide, no one thought it was as good as the first film and most thought it wasn’t good. That can’t happen on the third film or they’ll kill a huge cash cow.
So you’re all probably wondering what the hell is “Pain & Gain”. The film is based on a Miami New Times article from 1999 and it’s based on a true story about a couple of steroid-abusing bodybuilders from Florida who become criminals. It ends up they become involved in an extortion ring and a kidnapping plot and it all goes wrong. When you read that synopsis…you don’t immediately think Michael Bay. But he must see something in this story, as he can get almost any movie made.
Finally “Bad Boys 3”. I love the second “Bad Boys”. LOVE. I hope the third sequel wins this battle as I cannot wait to see what the hell is put on screen that can top the second film. For more on “Bad Boys 3”, read this, as Matt writes about his love for the franchise.
Obviously, as soon as more news ends up online, we’ll report it.
