TRANSFORMERS 3 Won’t Bring Back The Twins

by     Posted 4 years, 99 days ago

There was a lot to dislike about Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, but one its largest sins was the racist caricatures of “The Twins”, Skids and Mudflap.  Reminiscent of black-face minstrels, the two spoke in jive and were illiterate.  Transformers 3 has become automatically better than the second film by removing those characters.  On his official message board, Michael Bay said in response to a rumor that the two were returning for the new sequel: “The Twins are not back in T3.”  Is this a sign that the third film will have a degree of restraint?  Or did Bay succumb to the negative press Revenge got for including The Twins?  While I hope it’s a matter of restraint, I’m happy that those characters are gone.  Now let’s hope that they’re not replaced by even more racist and obnoxious robots, in which case I’ll have to retract my statement about the film being “automatically better.”

I really didn't have a problem with the twins. To me they were just there for comedy relief. When you go to a stand up comedy show (or something like that) the comedians are more racist there than anywhere else (that I've seen, then again I live in Canada) but no one takes it seriously because we know that they don't really mean it.

Now, I don't want anyone to twist my words and think that I said that if someone is doing or saying something to be funny that that means it is okay to say or do. I do NOT mean that, but come on – Transformers 2 could have done a lot of worse things with the twins.

Isn't it racist to think that two robots speaking “jive” and illiterate are seen as being black!! Your response as well as others assume that these behaviors automatically represent a specific culture……Just Sayin

What if they had some strong southern accents would that be racist against whites? Thats just stupid because first of all transformers learned english from the world wide web and there are plenty of stupid slangs out there. I could post a ton of youtube videos that sound just like those two robots.

Anybody who doesn't find “the twins” offensive for a number of reasons is moron. Bay himself said they were put to be the “Jar Jar Binks of the movie”; something for the kids to laugh at. They said plenty of things I wouldn't want my kids repeating.
That being said, even without said twins, there is still no saving this movie.
    @Mike.Hutnan
They did do worse then the twins: out of place drug humor, humping robots and giant balls. Yay toilet humor.

Not as offensive as the people that actually paid hard earned money to see it.

  • Nunegro

You certainly have a point. the twins were just an insult to e on the screen in general and for me, was one of the any items that made the film unbearable for another viewing anytime soon.

    LOL!

First off, I apologize before hand because I bounce around a lot when I type stuff on the internet.

I didn't say that they were not offensive. I said I didn't mind them in the sense that they weren't racist like so many people seem to think so. Like cj42 said, we don't know if they are Russian, Chinese or Hispanic. It is the people who assume they are black and connect the dots of 'slums' and African Americans who would be racist. The rest of the things that you mentioned were not THE TWINS, though they were involved in 2 of the 3. That would just be bad directing on Michael Bay's part and a bad script from the screen writers.

Though you may have a point that since the twins were to be 'for the kids' that they said and did quite a bit of inappropriate things that you would not want your children saying or doing. I would respond to that that there are an innumerable amount of things that children have access to that are just as bad or worse. Two such examples are lyrics in songs. You can go to a mall or something and hear adolescents citing the lyrics and they may not know what they mean, but they are still inappropriate (according to society). The second example could be a direct result from parenting; If you rent a movie and don't check to see if its there or that it is the right movie, and your children watch it before you do and it turns out that it was a porno, that is your fault. Anything that children watch or do with or before a parent that has the appropriate warnings (Rating on a movie, warning label on CD's etc.) and then they do something that was in the movie that you would deem inappropriate is your fault. I'm not saying shelter your children but you had adequate warning so you can't really complain. Transformers 2 is no exception, taken from IMDB.com “Rated PG-13 for intense sequences of sci-fi action violence, language, some crude and sexual material, and brief drug material.”

Russian, chinese or Hispanic? Its rather obvious that they're black in much the same way that Jazz was “black” in the first movie. Most people picked up on their looks as well, which looked rather like a monkey's face and that added to arguments about their offensive nature.

Regardless for a movie, its main objective was to entertain and it was such a chore to sit through, this franchise is probably one of the weakest, most stereotypical franchises of the last decade

the difference for me between the supposed ethnicity of Jazz and these guys was that Jazz was infinitely elegant, cool and adult. these little boobs should be in their cribs.

Transformers is a movie based on a toy line. My point is kids want to see them, Bay KNEW kids wanted to see them, and deliberately made characters “for the kids” that said and did things that were inappropriate for children. Ratings be damned that's not the point. It was irresponsible on his part.
The bigger issue is can Bay make a movie without toilet humor? The answer is no. Hell, that level of forced 'comic relief” has no place in the movie to begin with; he just can't stand to take anything seriously or his head might explode.

  • Grapenutsrbt

Oh, I should also point out I'm not a parent.

in he first movie, there was no potty words so bay can make a movie without it but it is true that kids would wanna see it really bad because of the toy line, and they would beg so much the parent would take them, and realize there was some bad words.

I am one of those parents. My boys begged me to take them and the first one was a little questionable but certainly not bad enough that I wouldn’t let them see it. I was completely shocked at the second movie. It wasn’t just the language which you can tell Bay was trying to see how many times that he could fit the f word in there, but all the unnessasary sexual contint. It was as if knew that children was going to watch this film and he wanted to expose them to everything bad. I will not take my kids to see the third unless it is more like the first and I am going going to have to see it first and have to spend more money and go again with them if it is appropriate.

Nunegro, it aint no insult on the screen, it's just a blend of style from the twins to the movie, I think they should be in transformers 3!

  • Nunegro

You take Bumblebee and minimize his role to bring in 2 characters that don't add anything relevant to the story or the franchise. I'm not big on the amount of humor in the 1st film and didn't more characters added to tell poor jokes and not advance the story. Not a fan. YOU weren't insulted, but I was.

I want the original twins, sunstreaker and sideswipe. what the hell was wrong with them?

i really dont even care to see the 3rd movie because the twins aint in it….i loved them, they became my favorite. we have people like them in real life so why the hell do we have to keep it from the movies????? and if it makes the movie racist than maybe they shouldnt have made the “Friday” movies. Or the movie “Cant Hardly Wait” beings that they have seth green(kenny) acting like a stereotypical black guy. i swear people always need to b**** about something. its like if u say holla or yo in a movie they gonna b****….omg its so racist….please grow up stupid people.

The Twins Were Great On The Second One,Without The Twins,The 2 Movie Would Have Been Boring Ass Hell.Well That’s My Opinion. They Should Have Never Took Out The Twins.Nothing Was Really Funny On The 3rd,It Was Just All Action And No Funny Scenes On It.There Were Some Funny Scenes But They Weren’t Really Funny To Make Me Laugh So Hard.
