TRANSFORMERS 4 Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura Confirms Dinobots

     September 3, 2013

If a Google-translated interview between Transformers 4 producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Beijing News is to be believed, then the Dinobots will be appearing in the untitled sequel.  Directed by Michael Bay, the newest installment in the Transformers franchise features newcomers Mark Wahlberg, Nicola Peltz and Jack Reynor, alongside veterans Stanley Tucci and Kelsey Grammer.  Chinese actress Bingbing Li also stars and likely adds some increased interest to the overseas box office.  The untitled Transformers film opens June 27, 2014.

transformers-dinobots-hasbroIn an interview with Beijing News (translated by this Transformers fan site), di Bonaventura seems to confirm the appearance of the Dinobots in the new film:

Beijing News: Allegedly this will add five Dinobots role? (Squad leader rex “cable” Triceratops “iron slag” Brontosaurus “mud” Stegosaurus “Howl” pterodactyl “darts”)

Lorenzo: I can not disclose the specifics, but it can be sure that the machine will give the audience join the dinosaurs bring new excitement. After seeing the film the audience will find that this will be a greater integration of various aspects, such as the previously separate human and car people will do with integration.

While Google clearly still has some work to do in the translation department, at least we can be sure that the machine will give the audience join the dinosaurs bring new excitement.  It’s not exactly an officially-stamped confirmation, but since his statement comes on the heels of a leaked call sheet and on-set photos that suggested the prehistoric bots would indeed be making an appearance.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the Dinobots (via Wikipedia):

The Dinobots are a group of Transformers, part of the Autobot faction. Their origins and abilities vary from one version of Transformers to the next, but they are generally depicted as powerful Autobots capable of sustaining heavy damage and wielding heavy firepower against their foes. They are the only known Autobot group capable of flight in robot mode, a trait they share with the Decepticons. They are always portrayed as fiercely independent, and are prone to diverge from the main group of Autobots to pursue their own agenda.
