Yesterday, we learned that Transformers 5 would be titled Transformers: The Last Knight, and today we’ve got the first piece of casting that ties the new Transformers movies back to the older ones outside of the Autobots. The official Transformers Twitter as well as Mark Wahlberg announced today that Josh Duhamel, who played William Lennox in the first three Transformers movies, will reprise his role for The Last Knight:

No other details are currently known about the extent of his role, but with Paramount angling to create an entire Transformers cinematic universe, it makes sense that they’d dip back into the older movies for returning characters even though we all know that characters are secondary to explosions and other mayhem in this franchise.

Speaking of returning characters, Tyrese Gibson is angling for a return to the franchise. I guess Gibson isn’t satisfied with just the mammoth Fast & Furious franchise even though he does well in those movies and in Transformers he would just be playing background to a bunch of giant CGI robots. But I suppose if being a part of T5 is what he wants and he’s up to ask for it, more power to him.

Transformers: The Last Knight opens June 23, 2017. Filming begins next week in Cuba. The picture will also shoot in Detroit.
