Paramount has released a new Transformers: Age of Extinction clip and TV spot.  In the movie, Mark Wahlberg plays a burgeoning inventor/family man who runs into trouble when he accidentally discovers a beat-up Transformer.  In the clip, Kelsey Grammer‘s character levels a grave threat at Wahlberg saying that he has to either play ball or else his teenage daughter will be killed.  The TV spot shows Transformers beating up other Transformers and riding around on Dinobots, so you can see that the tone is perfectly balanced.  I don’t know how you make this franchise look phoned in, but I can’t believe a film with this many explosions can look so ho-hum.

Hit the jump to check out the Transformers: Age of Extinction clip and TV spot.  The film opens in 3D on June 27th, and also stars Nicola Peltz, Jack Reynor, Stanley Tucci, Sophia Myles, Li Bingbing, T.J. Miller, Han Geng, and Titus Welliver.

Also, does Optimus Prime do anything other than deliver ominous warnings and use a sword against other Transformers?  This is his fourth film, and it doesn’t seem like they’ve done much in the way of character development.

Here’s the official synopsis for Transformers: Age of Extinction:

TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION is the fourth film in director Michael Bay’s global blockbuster franchise. The film begins after an epic battle that left a great city torn, but with the world saved. As humanity picks up the pieces, a shadowy group reveals itself in an attempt to control the direction of history… while an ancient, powerful new menace sets Earth in its crosshairs. With help from a new cast of humans, Optimus Prime (voiced by Peter Cullen) and the Autobots rise to meet their most fearsome challenge yet. In an incredible adventure, they are swept up in a war of good and evil, ultimately leading to a climactic battle across the world.

this movie just looks bored with itself – word of mouth is going to have to be through the roof to get me in the theater

Mark Walhberg wearing glasses looks funny… ha

I am hoping that if this movie is so god-awfully abysmal it implodes and dies…we’ll get a change in blockbuster film quality. I hope studios realize they are going to start having to up their game to keep even the average filmgoer interested.

It won’t flop, average joes love these movies. The last one made $1.1 BILLION and it was terrible lol, they will show up again for this one. Has a new hot girl, has Marky Mark, I bet it crosses a billion easy with 3D/IMAX viewings.

Nobody gives a crap about this franchise anymore. Internationally it’s not going to do well – it’s World Cup season. People won’t be interested in boring explosions and empty CGI effects with cheesefest characters when they can watch game after game of good football.

Oh god, and that’s supposed to be more entertaining how?

Cinemas are showing the world cup for a reason that’s all I am saying. There is a HUGE market for Fifa including games, consols, food etc. Michael Bay totally f-ed up pushing TF4 to this year, even if he had a TF commercial for the Fifa World up – no one is going to be interested. The same acn be said about TNMT – booooring and frankly creepy. When you can watch hot girls jumping up and down and party around town? ( not really the actual reasons ) Yeah my money is on FIFA.

I’m shocked…or not really, that I’m simply not at all excited to see this movie. I was extremely disappointed to see M.Bay return to this franchise…it needed to be shaken up. I think the TF have been around long enough that there are plenty of stories and adventures to tell. TF has a pretty rich mythology at this point and we’re getting a fourth rehash of the same story once again. It will keep me away from the theaters this time around..

I don’t doubt the efforts and energy that went into making this movie…but blech. Even Linkin Park was smart enough not to return to this drivel…

  • Strong Enough

60 mil opening weekend. count on it

    • DEADP00L

That’s a weak opening considering MaleFiftyCent opened at 70 mil and Godzilla opened with 98 ie 100 million. That’s flop material.
