If you’re going to give a voice to Optimus Prime’s predecessor Sentinel Prime, then that voice just can’t have gravitas.  It must have geek gravitas.  EW reports that Leonard Nimoy will provide the voice for Sentinel Prime, whose wrecked body is seen in the teaser trailer for Transformers: Dark of the Moon. Nimoy previously provided the voice of Galvatron in the 1986 animated film The Transformers: The Movie.

EW also has details on Sentinel Prime’s role in the film.  Hit the jump for those details.  Transformers: Dark of the Moon stars Shia LaBeouf, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Josh Duhamel, John Malkovich, Tyrese Gibson, Frances McDormand, and Ken Jeong.  The film opens in 3D on July 1st.

[Warning: Spoilers ahead]

According to EW, Sentinel Prime is brought to Earth, and he takes the disguise form of a fire engine in the movie’s massive, climactic battle through Chicago. I hope that instead of actually fighting in the final battle, Sentinel Prime just goes around trying to put out all of the fires caused by the fighting between the other transformers.

  1. Was listening to Opie & Anthony on XM a while back, and they stumbled upon something I cannot un-know. In the new Trek ‘boot, Nimoy has a distinct denture-caused inflection in his voice. Now I can’t hear anything but that. Hopefully it will be filtered out. Or this Prime could have dentures. Either way.

    • Yeah every time that I watch Star Trek, all I can think about is Ant’s impression of him. Wow and as I am writing this, he is doing the impression!

  2. Sentinel Prime? Would it be that difficult to just name OP’s predecessor in the new movie, Alpha Trion?

  3. I thought Nimoy retired form acting?

So he’s pulling a Brett Farve here….or is he admitting that appearing in this film isn’t acting.

  4. Orion Pax was actually Optimus Primes original name they could have used that but Alpha Trion created Prime, tho he was never the leader of the autobots. He never held the matrix of leadership.

  5. I thought it was Nimoy’s voice from the clues in his dialog. The best was the line “The needs of the many outweight the needs of the few” bazinga. Thus my hunt to make sure I was not going crazy. A trekki fan to the end. May he live long and prosper!
