TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON Trailer and First Official Synopsis

     April 28, 2011

The theatrical trailer for Transformers: Dark of the Moon has landed online. We see some pretty fantastic looking footage on the moon, followed by some really impressive stuff back on Earth. We’re talking full-on invasion this time around. We get our first look at Frances McDormand as well. However, as we all know from the second flick Revenge of the Fallen, simply watching robots fight for 2+ hours does not a good movie make (understatement). This one has to be better than Revenge of the Fallen, right? Hitting 3D theaters on July 1st, Michael Bay’s Transformers: Dark of the Moon stars Shia LaBeouf, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Josh Duhamel, John Malkovich, Frances McDormand, Tyrese Gibson, Patrick Dempsey, and voice work from Hugo Weaving, Peter Cullen, and Leonard Nimoy.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer along with the first “synopsis” and a new still from the movie.  I put “synopsis” in quotations because it’s more of a logline and not a particularly illuminating one at that.

Here’s the first synopsis for Transformers: Dark of the Moon:

When a mysterious event from Earth’s past erupts into the present day it threatens to bring a war to Earth so big that the Transformers alone will not be able to save us. The movie stars Shia LaBeouf, John Turturro, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Patrick Dempsey, Kevin Dunn, with John Malkovich and Frances McDormand.

Woooo! Transformers: Dark of the Moon will be the biggest movie ever! Watch out Avatar!

    • moviefreak

i’m sorry but thats going to be harry potter and the deathly hallows part 2 lol

    • Adam

r u crazy..first it need a big luck to get anywhere near Titanic too !!! LOL !!

  • Jack Easton

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley is amazingly gorgeous. This sensual young woman is indescribably beautiful. English perfection doesn’t get much purer than her. I love her. She’s a really sweet girl.

  • Kilgore Trout

Holy shit, that battle scene better be fucking incredible. I don’t care how bad Transformers 2 was, I’m going to see it. Too bad there weren’t any clips of Sentinel Prime.

  • Chuck

Im actually surprised that they would use a falling skyscraper as a huge set piece post 9/11. A little errie. The new girl looks like a barbie doll stuck in the head lights. Everything else pretty good.

  • Sara

I don’t know about Rosie… she seams little retard… just with that big lips open… And that sceane that Shia smash Rosie hair and face… hilarious….

I will watch this film… looks really good.

  • David Con

i’m not loving it . . . ending was okay, but not loving it

  • elwin

Am I the only person in the world that finds Rosie Huntington-Whiteley completely unattractive?

    • junierizzle

No you’re not. She looks like a dude. I can’t believe all the dudes that say she is hot.

    • Ruari

I agree. Rosie’s not much more of a looker than Fox was. But then again, honestly, I’m not interested in the Transformers movies for the sex appeal. This one looks like it might just be better than the overly commercial, silly, and rushed second installment that was Revenge Of The Fallen.

  • Steven

Looks alright, it’ll sound silly but I generally don’t like the “here comes our big war finale” plot point in movies… things tend to get too busy and important stuff gets hurried through etc.

Don’t think I like the new girl either, she has a real vacant stare… I’m it works in modeling but not so much here.

  • Al

The new chick looks like an even worse actress than Megan Fox. God help us all.

  • junierizzle

It was heart pounding, breathtaking and fantastic. But enough about the score.

The movie has good action. But of course it is going to have cool action. And please tell me that robots snapping a building is the thing “we’ve never seen before.” Overall Meh.

And can people pleas stop calling this Rosie chick beautiful and gorgeous. First of all she ain’t hot. Secondly, she sticks out like a sore thumb. And lastly, we still have her acting to look forward too. NOt one word in the trailer. OH NO.

I’m not seeing this until word gets out that it isn’t a piece of sh*t!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • adam

lol this is a full 30 seconds longer than the deathly halows part 2 trailer and that trialer still completly pwns this one

  • Jeff T.

    Amazing stuff. Truly amazing.

I already feel bad for the other so-called big summer movies. Transformers 3 wil simply destroy the competition.

    July 1, here we come!

  • Charlie S.

1st – adam – Harry potter blows gigolos,

2nd – TF3 looks 1000% more enticing. Like a mighty trident of awesome gripped by a warrior of the great beyond, Bay shall be the truth of cool striking at the hearts of all.

  • dogg

The trailers always look good for these, and then you see the movie and it’s all bad plot, failed jokes, and multimillion effects shots ruined by crap camera angles.

  • Epic

That sure does look awesome, but so did Revenge of the Fallen… Whats her name, Rosie, she’s alright. Megan Fox was hotter. Lets see if she can act as well as Megan (lol).

With that said, I’m still gonna see this opening day.

  • SPS

First, the film looks amazing, but if I can, I would honestly, not ruthless like every other comment will be, but give perfectly honest criticisms.
First, when seeing the trailer, I wasn’t that confident with the Rosie Huntington-Whitely character. I’m sure will see better footage of her in the future, but she seemed too much like the damsel-in-distress than Megan’s independent firecracker (Say what you want, but I felt she actually did a good job in terms of character work). Also, we briefly saw Frances McDormand, but we should have at least seen images of Patrick Dempsey and John Malkovich in there as well.
Second, I appreciate the darker tone, but one thing that was missing was the fun. I will be honest, there were parts in the second film that were lacking, but it was an overall fun popcorn film. This one, it seems to me, is too serious, much like Battle: Los Angeles was. It worked for Battle: Los Angeles, but this is Transformers! We need to see that there will be some fun parts in the film as there probably will be (Revenge of the Fallen’s trailer was similar in tone with this trailer, but the actual film, admittly went too far). As long as they don’t make the same mistake here, I can see major gold for this one.
Criticisms aside, I think the movie is going to be great. It looked a lot better than I thought it would.

  • Lance

BOO!!! This is another Bay film which you’ll forget the moment you’ll leave the theater.

Wish these movies had Shia doing more than yelling “Optimus!” at the top of his lungs all the time.

  • gorgo

I seldom see love for Michael Bay on various movie blogs, this one is no exception. But that doesn’t stop TRANSFORMERS 2 from earning more than $400 million at US Box Office. This one, which admittedly looks better save for the rather helpless female protagonist, will at least earn $250 to low $300 million if serious fatigue for the franchise has not kicked in. Add to the fact that so-so BATTLE L.A. is rather similar in tone & ALIENS & COWBOYS will add more fatigue to the glut of “been there, seen that” alien invasion movies. But at least ALIENS & COWBOYS people have better taste in woman (Olivia Wilde).

  • gimpsuit

All you haters will be there watching this, you all know it. Stop pretending to be all ‘yeah whatever, Bay sucks, meh’.
    You will be there.
And FFS, go a little easy on Rosie man, the poor girl’s probably looking at a bottle of sleeping pills right now with all the asshole comments about her. You’d all offer up your left nut for her to exhale in your direction.

    • giovanni

I doubt she is concerned with what geek fanboys think about her when she has Jason Statham at home with her. They have been dating for a while now.

    • Guns Of Navarone

      Well said man, well said.

  • j_bear83

Fuck Yeah!! That’s what summer is all about!!!!

  • Pete

Many of you haven’t asked the most important question….

Is Linkin Park doing the main song again?

New Divide was the only good thing from Transformers 2

    • Clayton

Agreed. I think LP is using “Iridescent” for this one.

    • NomNom

They remixed their song “Iridescent” from their “A Thousand Sun’s” Album as the new theme for the film.

  • Steve ‘Frosty’ Weintraub

wish I could have written this article but wasn’t online. holy F does this trailer look amazing!

  • sense 11

I just don’t trust Michael Bay.

  • Aeonstrife

    Amazing? Steve are you nuts?

It looks like a horrible cliched spoof with anorexic plastic pieces of junk ready to unleash toxic waste by going direct to DVD.

I wouldn’t let my worst enemy see such a chemical spill, let alone the mainstream audience.

Do yourself and all of us a favor please Steve. Go get some new glasses that let you see clearly a manure pile.

    • NomNom

Why don’t you do us all a favor and search up what “opinion” means.

    • B

  • LMB

Linkin Park are doing the song, it’s called iridescent. Really different to new divide though, it’s dead slow. Fits with the darker tone they’re going for though

  • GerryA

I’m not going to pee my panties with excitement just yet. Bay has a habit of raping my childhood to fuel his coke habit. I can predicte the new chicks dialogue.

    Screen Candy: “SPIKE!!!”

    Screen Candy: “HELP!!”

    Screen Candy: “SPIKE HELP ME!!!!”

  • danielplainview

i think, because this is 3D, Bay wouldn’t do the chopped a second editing(the same way as i don’t think, a greengrass flick would work on 3D). the problem with these amazing trailers from Bay films, is as awesome as they look, when it comes to the film itself, the guy just can’t pace his action well. we also saw on this trailer things that might be the “big bang” in the movie.

i used to think that movies holds us back on action. then i saw Transformers 1′s second half. and Revenge of the Fallen’s whole part. if you do “bang bang bang”, the magic disappears. you don’t over exploit the best thing about your movie. it becomes boring.

Wow. It is amazing to see how many fanboys are closet homosexuals. Stop acting like you have standards and quit saying bad things about that girl. We get it- you don’t have a chance – like a snowflake in hell. That doesn’t mean you have to hate on her. Or Megan Fox for that matter. She may not be your type, but she is the type for more more than 75% of straight men, maybe more. Yes, her acting does suck and she will eventually be but a small blurb in hollywood history as “the first transformers chick”, but unless your gay, leave her and rosie’s appearance alone. …or come out.
