TRANSFORMERS: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN Makes $16 Million from Midnight Openings

Michael Bay’s “Transformers” sequel opened this morning at 12:01 am and has already claimed the best Wednesday opening of all time. “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” played 3,000 screens – 2,000 of which were completely sold-out according to Fandango – bringing in a total estimated at $16 million. This is the second highest midnight opening of all time, bested only by “The Dark Knight” which made $18.5 million on a Friday last July. “Transformers 2″ may not have crushed the midnight record, but it has handily crushed the previous Wednesday opening record of $12 million held by “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix”. Poor little wizard boy didn’t stand a chance against robots with balls…
