TRANSFORMERS: THE DARK OF THE MOON Plot Revealed

by Matt Goldberg    Posted:October 18th, 2010 at 2:19 pm

The plot synopsis for Transformers: The Dark of the Moon has inadvertently been revealed via the Amazon description for the Transformers 3 Push-Pops.  For folks who want to avoid spoilers (although seriously, it’s Transformers for God’s sake), I’ve put the synopsis after the jump.

Transformers: The Dark of the Moon is in 3D, directed by Michael Bay, and stars Shia LaBeouf, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, John Turturro, Alan Tudyk, Ken Jeong, Patrick Dempsey, and John Malkovich.  The film is slated to open on July 1, 2011.

Here’s the synopsis for Transformers: The Dark of the Moon from the Amazon product description [via tfw2005]

The Autobots, led by Optimus Prime, are back in action, taking on the evil Decepticons, who are determined to avenge their defeat in 2009’s Transformers Revenge of the Fallen. In this new movie, the Autobots and Decepticons become involved in a perilous space race between the U.S. and Russia, and once again human Sam Witwicky has to come to the aid of his robot friends. There’s new characters too, including a new villain in the form of Shockwave, a longtime “Transformers” character who rules Cybertron while the Autobots and Decepticons battle it out on Earth.

I love thinking of the Transformers as Sam Witwicky’s “robot friends”.  Here’s a brief recap of what else we know about the sequel:

  • Characters that die stay dead
  • Bay says “This one really builds to a final crescendo. It’s not three multiple endings.” He goes on to say, “As a trilogy, it really ends.  It could be rebooted again, but I think it has a really killer ending.”
  • They aim to upgrade the franchise with a more coherent story and less goofball humor

I can’t wait for that movie. Loved the first two and I love Michael Bay’s work. Hopefully this one will close the trilogy in an epic way. Fingers crossed.

    • Chewbacca7125 @

LOL who loves Michael Bay’s work? Best thing he’s made is The Island, and that’s saying something.
Transformers was okay, and Transformers 2 was terrible.

      • MrRich316 @

I thought it was better than G.I.Joe:The Rise of Cobra

      • Frinky @

LOL whut? This Island is his worst movie, and THAT’s saying something considering he made Pearl Harbor and RotF.

      • Fray @

Here we go, the blind haters are already here. Who loves Bay’s work you ask?

I love his work, millions of people around the globe love his work, people from colider love his work, Spielberg loves his work, Nolan loves his work. I can do this all day, pal.

Now go back to the hate infested IMDb and stay there. Judging by your comment, you definitely belong there.

      • Your Face @

Nolan and Spielburg are directors not critics. Some of Bay’s films can be good and he can get good action but he can get annoying sometimes.

It’s pretty common knowledge that Transformers 2 is the worst movie ever made.

No 1 can make everyone happy i’m a TF fan so I like the movies just cuz i’d been waiting to see em in live action form…How bad is ur life when ur so critical to be angry about a movie, when there r plenty of Autobots to slaag,All hail Megatron or die…I believe in a new Cybertron 1 that doesnt include politics nd opinions….No pour me sum energon soup and roll up errr out…

      • Chuck777 @

Chewa-whateva, you’re officially one of the biggest tools I’ve ever seen. Do you even know what Bay has done, fruitcake?

Do you know that his two Bad Boys films are nothing but cult classics, loved by the entire ‘effin planet. Then take The Rock, which is without a doubt one of the best action films of all time. Ask anybody. Armageddon is the ultimate example of the perfect summer blockbuster-crowdpleaser. And I’m not even talking about how successful these films are, both during their theatrical run and especially on DVD and BluRay.

And with these facts in mind, you have the nerve to ask “who loves Michael Bay’s work?”. Only a complete idiot would ask that.

Hell, even old fart Ebert admits that he likes The Rock, The Island and Transformers. Also, fans from all over the world are joining Bay’s official website every single day. And that’s just by observing it, I’m not even a member there.

Is that good enough for ya? Does it answer your stupid question?

      • Lost_empire @

Quote Spielberg all you want, it ain’t going to convince me or anyone else that his shaky cam, attention deficit disorder cutting, and over saturated-in-noise style directing is anything on par with good directing. Compared to Bay, Brett Ratner looks like Spielberg.

      • Fray @

Whatever floats your boat, my man. You know what’s the best part though > that no matter how much you whine and complain, Bay will keep making his films and the audiences all over the world will make these films huge hits. Sucks to be you I know, but these are the facts and there’s nothing, absolutely nothing, that you can do about it.

Btw, I sure as hell don’t want to waste my time convincing you, simply because you’re nobody. Just a random guy on the web. Spielberg said it best, and many, many people around the globe, fans of Bay’s work, agree with him.

        Have a nice day.

      • GoBlue87 @

I think everyone can say the Bay is a good ACTION MOVIE director. He really knows how to make a great summer action movie, but other than crazy shit happening and one liners on the screen he is not that great. Character development, plot cohesiveness, and other things that make a great overall director like Nolan who can do any type of movie, he lacks. Also i want to see this quote from Spielberg.

      • Chris @

If you knew anything about film you’d say he sucks. Spielberg said he’s a good ACTION movie director. Not a good director.

Dude i know a lot of people who watch them just so they can have a right to have an opinion on the movie. It doesnt mean they enjoy them. So shut the fuck up pretending to have an opinion for everyone else. I for one saw both Transformers. The first was one eh & the second one was shit. Bad boys one was his only decent flick. Quit being a douche because u have wet dreams about autobots.

Let’s not forget that Michael Bay is also a production whiz, I mean who didn’t like that remake that he produced of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre or… or… Friday the 13th. -.-’…. Michael Bay succeeds at directing, and producing, the cinematic intestinal scrape that is ruining hollywood today, crappy action movies, remakes of cult classics that would make a film about dookie well received, and making a series out of movies that shouldn’t have come out in the first place. Let’s not forget that Stephen Spielberg has produced, and directed, his share of bargain bin movies as well.

      • Harryoper @

ummmm your a retard bro. did you see the town? ben affleck did a pretty dang good job directing and acting that movie. and if you’d look on rotten tomatoes, 95% of the critics thought so too. and also. were talking about transformers here, not pearl harbor. oh and to answer your question about why michael bay gets to keep on making movies, its because he makes the companies that he works for a freaking ton of money. just look up the box offices for all of his movies. im pretty sure none of them were below $100 million with the exception of maybe 2 or 3. so get off his and ben afflecks d man.

Hey at least it ain’t Uwe Boll.

    • Lost_empire @

You know, I would actually be interested in what Uwe Boll can do with a budget Michael Bay works with. Not saying Boll is any good, but he aims really low and hits a mark on his movies be so-bad-they are amusing mark. I thinking his work would be on par with Batman and Robin. Something so aweful it turns around to be amusing because of its flaws. He knows he is making a crappy film so he makes it intentionally bad. Plus Uwe can kick Michael Bays ass.

Dude, get a life. You’re all over this comments page. Yes, we understand that you think Michael Bay is the most awesomest director of all time. Even Uwe Boll has made a good movie (Rampage), that’s sad when even Uwe Boll has made better films than Bay.

      • Kristijonas @

Fray… Uwe Boll CAN literally kick Michael Bay’s ass. Haven’t you read about the boxing match the disgruntled director had with his biggest critics? He kicked their asses. Comparing that outcome with Michael Bay’s physical stature and certain attention deficit disorder reflexes, Uwe has my vote.

And doesn’t South Park’s Imaginationland 2-part special have the BEST Michael Bay impersonation ever? Hahaha! Check that out on Youtube guys.

      • Punktu8 @

I am not a big fan of Michael Bay per say but I do enjoy most of his movies I wouldn’t put him in the same category as Spielberg or anything but yes he is an amazing action director….I enjoyed both Bad Boys and can’t wait for the third one, ROTF sucked balls but I liked the first Transformers, The Island was okay nothing to write home to mom about….The Rock….come on thats one of the most quoted damn movies of all time….”welcome to the rock” (Connery accent), and of course you have Armageddon a movie that I hated the first time I saw it but is like a mold it grows on you….actually thats how I would classify Bay he’s a mold or a fungus he grows on you….and as a person that most people hate when they first meet me because i’m a loud mouthed @$$-hole that doesn’t care what anyone thinks I too am like a mold or fungus I grow on you so for all the people that just bash on Bay or say he’s the $%^& can’t you all just agree to disagree instead of talking so much $%^& that it litters up the comment boards….what I would love to see is even just one of you guys go and pull a Jay and Silent Bob Strikes Back move and go to each persons house kicking the $%^& out of them for talking trash that would be amazing!!! :P

Transformers in 3D SOUNDS GOOD but I can barely watch part 2 without getting a headache. Maybe they should zoom out a little because I cant tell what he hell the Transformers look like hahaha unless I am looking at a poster.

  12. BayRocks @

Bay is the best, period. The guy is a walking success and most importantly he’s not taking himself too seriously. Unlike that turd James CaMORON.

TF3 will destroy everything in 2011. I feel sorry for the other films. Bring it, Bay!!

    • Douglas Wilson @

Avatar wasn’t great but it’s alot better than ROTF. Cameron’s other films are great though. By not taking himself seriously he annoys me with his horrible jokes that where far too overthetop in ROTF. The 1st one was entertaining but the second one was horrible. Harry Potter 8, Thor, Captain America look much better than TF3. Harry Potter’s going to be the biggest movie of the summer. Though the previews make it look good. No Fox, no shit humor and more character devlopment. Looks good but I still can’t trust him.

    • Cfairley91 @

James Cameron is a bit of a moron but at least he made the first two terminator films. Quite a lot better than Pearl Harbor or any of Michael Bay’s other trash. You are a sad twat.

  13. Jake @

    LOL at the trolls.

You guys all went and saw it on day 1 am loved it until you went on rottentomatoes and imdb to see it was universally slammed by the critics, then you decided to jump ship.

    LMAO at all the sheep.

    T3 FTW

  14. OptiPrime @

Am I the only one confused about Patrick Dempsey being in this movie? Lol….
I hope it makes up for the garbage that was Transformers 2. The first one was actually enjoyable, but the second one was…nonsense. Bay’s made decent films before, and I really hope he makes this one good. Please, for all of us Transformers fans!
But box office wise, it will be this and Pirates duking it out with Harry Potter and Twilight…*washes mouth out with soap after saying Twilight* *Does so again*

  15. Anonymous @

Transformers was a decent popcorn film and Transformers 2 was just boring as balls and there was really only one memorable scene for me. The humor in Transformers 2 was terrible as well, it was like for 8 year olds “I AM UNDER ITS SCROTUM” OMG LOL. Needless to say I will see the third film just to see if they can make it any better, I am not expecting anything perfect from Bay but at least I know he can deliver good mindless popcorn fun if he tries hard enough.

Oh and to you people saying Bay is a great director because he makes a lot of money…that is the dumbest way to look at something. I have come to the realization that the majority of America are just mainstream pop culture sheep, they like whatever is big because it is big not because its good. Another perfect example of this: Lil Wayne

  20. Sylentwolf @

This is NOT a plot or a spoiler, which means, we will be seeing a sequel of Part 2. Doesn’t sound all that great. More “Bay-plosions,” “Bad Acting,” and a storyline that will not be “Out-of-this-World.”

    Pray for a REBOOT

  21. Mseeley @

sounds like it could be better than the last one(then again I haven’t seen Revenge of the Fallen, so I can’t entirely judge).

  22. Jb2colorado @

I’m a huge fan on Transformers, not so much Michael Bay. I think the 1st film was excellent since I went in expecting it to look awful and the transformations and robots looked believable, considering that they were, in fact, transforming robots. The 2nd one was absolute garbage and I think Bay and the rest of his cohorts would agree that somewhere along the way it became about getting the movie done rather than doing the movie right. I also agree that Bay is a good action director, but I don’t think he’s done any other kind of movie, correct me if I’m wrong. But to all of the people trashing this before it hits the screen, you’re going to go see it, maybe not in the theaters, but you’re definitely going to see Transformers 3 at some point, even if it’s just to bash it with some credibility. I think Avatar should have been called Pocahontas 2 : Into the Wild Blue, and I knew that way before it came out, but I still saw it just so I could say I told you so. P.S. James Cameron blows himself.

  23. Army1601 @

I’m on the fence about this, I Liked the first one a lot, but the 2 nd disappointed me, if they were to just go back to the fun factor of the first one, minus all the stupidity of the second, and more Optimus Prime fights, I’d be satisfied

  24. Doder @

3d! eeeeeeeeeeeeehhhhhhhhhh crap. I’m so so of the glasses. Not to mention they are to dark for an action movie.

  25. Couture_25 @

Oh geez. In my opinion, Bay is an all out entertainer. And what’s wrong with that? He likes action, hot girls, and top-of-the-line visual razzle dazzle. I kind of enjoy it, I’m always entertained. I have been entertained by all of his films, “ROTF” being maybe the only one I found to be plain annoying. In his defense, aside from Pearl Harbor, he always picks stuff that doesn’t require an Oscar level screenplay. It’s a movie about robots beating each other, so that’s what it is, and he approaches it with a fun teen guy-ish kind of enthusiasm. Bay’s got great friends in high places, with a little more work in the scripting/acting etc departments, he’s doin’ just fine.

  26. Couture_25 @

As long as your work is better than an Uwe Boll production, you’re good in my book. Well maybe not good, but I mean ANYTHINGS better than an Uwe Boll movie. Those are frightfully dreadful in all respects. I’ve seen a couple Boll films and…. It’s a joke. Just don’t be Boll bad, and it’s all good.

  27. Lego4134 @

Yeah, still not bothering with this series. Saw the first one. It was ok. Then I was done.

  29. Jr @

I wasn’t against Michael Bay at the start. I thought Badboys, the Rock, & Armageddon were all pretty good. Badboys 2, Pearl Harbour, The Island, & Transformers 1 & 2 were pretty terrible. I thought the first Transformers had its moments but fell apart because of Bays insistence on having 5, 20 foot transformers hiding around a house and other such scenes of fine comedy. Transformers 2 was one of the worst pieces of shit I have ever seen. This guy can direct action but he shouldn’t plot the movie around action set pieces and then ask writers to connect the dots. But I love Transformers 2′s favorite excuse on why its so bad. The writers strike(boo hoo). Who’s writing these anyway. The Dark of the Moon??? Pathetic!!!

  32. YaMammiesABitch @

Characters that die stay dead. That’s ironic considering both main Transformer characters died and returned. Bay is silly.

  33. Mylolamanola @

I like how people on here put up quotes and facts about how people like Michael Bay movies and say how complaining will never get you anything and to shut up and that speilberg said yadda yadda and call people haters and say that the people that like them have a right too and all that nonsense. Here’s the thing: Talkbacks are for people to debate topics and voice their opinions and such. There are going to be some or many that do not like his films and never will and guess what! They may want to voice that opinion! You Bay-lovers have to respect that too. Otherwise, dont respond to the haters if it bothers you. Here’s an idea: respond to the ones with similar opinions to yours! Love the movies together! And another thing: Movies are a huge business. Decisions are made based on marketing and they pick people a lot of times who can smoothly put out a giant movie with predictable outcomes: Making lots o’ money! When Spielberg compliments Bay its because they have entrusted him to direct the movies they wanted made and cant bad mouth him in public. Im not even saying he would want to. Spielberg may really love him for all i know. I just think thats stupid if he does. All Im saying is, a good business man isnt going to publicly badmouth a partner even if he privately regrets him. He wants to say the thing that will generate the most positive buzz about the guy. Let me fit in, Michale Bay movies are typically liked by people around here with terrible taste in movies. I couldnt even sit through Armageddon, Pearl Harbor, and Transformers and when rewatching the Rock it was very 90′s cheesy in a bad way.

she plays Karly, of which, in th cartoon series, was Spike’s gf and later in Season 3 was married to and had boy Daniel. Not sure why theyre introducing this character now

The humor in the first one was good. The writing/humor in the second SUCKED. Just don’t try to appeal to immature (even for their age) 6th grade boys. Isn’t that who wrote the last one? Sorry Kurtzman and Orci, you did well with all your other movies.

thank you Mr Last Month. lol Most of us keepin up on th movie buzz, already knew this a couple months ago when Wikipedia posted it

The second would have been a great action movie if not for two things: the “Megan Fox is sexy” scenes were stupid, and the final fight in the desert where they’re running through the desert to get back to Optimus was waaay too long and could have been shortened by ten minutes. But the scene earlier where Optimus Prime fights two Decepticons at once was both gracefully, beautifully animated and just totally freakin epic.

All it needs is more movie and less crap. That’s what makes Transformers so good and Revenge of the Fallen so bad. Transformers was a movie. Fallen was just crap.

Michael Bay’s work is the jock-rock of the film world. The meat heads gravitate to it like moths to a bulb. But hey, nothing wrong with having mediocre taste…

lol @ Michael Bay posting under different names.

Isn’t there some shitty half-assed action flick you could be directing?

Michael bay can do so much with this series. Hopefully he will add triple changers, omega supreme, unicron and the dinobots

Bay IS one of the worst directors of all time. Spielberg only uses him as Bay’s films are finatially successful, but still shit. VERY VERY SHIT
Pearl Harbour and Armageddon nominated for Worst Picture
    ROTF WON WORST PICTURE :D

I still hate the character design of the movie version transformers. There’s too many individual pieces to make up one robot.

Wait, Michael Bay actually had to think of a plot this time around? Man, I bet that really gave him a headache. Next thing ya know, he’ll have to stop making movies about explosions!
