I knew this year’s Comic Con was going to do something awesome to promote ‘Tron Legacy’ coming out sometime in 2010 or 2011, but it’s been mostly speculation as to what it would be. Before the con and during the panel this morning they passed out Flynn’s Arcade tokens, so most bets were that they brought the arcade to comic con.
And they did! So after the jump you can see some images I shot from inside the event – which includes the new lightcycle!
At 9:30 pm teams of people were given packets with a scavenger hunt and a black light. You had to find each of the 15 or so posters scattered around the Gaslamp Quarter and use the black light on the paper to reveal a clue, when the teams were done they had to use the clues to fill in a grid, place it over a map and you would have the secret location.
By the time I got there a line had already formed under a discreet sign simply proclaiming “Flynn’s.” Once inside it was like walking back into the eighties. Rock ballads and retro games everywhere, things I haven’t seen since my childhood; Pac-Man, Asteroids, Air Hock and Foosball tables, they even had Space Paranoids. After the crowd got the play a couple free games a part of the wall opened up and we all got to file in to see some concept art and, yes, the Lightcycle. Needless to say, it was awesome.
Flynn’s Arcade will be open to the public tomorrow night as well. It’s located on 6th St between J and K right next to the Marriott. If you’re at Comic-Con, you should definitely go check it out.
