It’s “TRON Tuesday” so you know what that means: new marketing to remind you that TRON: Legacy is coming soon (in case you forgot).  Today, MySpace is premiering a new poster featuring the digitally de-aged Jeff Bridges as “Clu”.  While everything I’ve seen of TRON: Legacy has been impressive, the Clu footage is what’s really blown my mind.  Previous attempts at digital de-aging have led to actors looking creepy and plastic, but it looks like they may have pulled it off with Clu.

Hit the jump to check out the poster, which is the first part of a three-poster series.  I’ve also included some quotes from Bridges where he gives his thoughts on his digital de-aging.  TRON: Legacy opens in 3D on December 17th.

Here are a couple quotes from Bridges where he talks about Clu:

This technology that’s used here, is very exciting to me as an actor, because now I can play myself at any age. I can be a four year old kid and the actor would be me. That’s pretty wild!”

“It is kinda spooky, you know.  The, uh, same guys who were involved with, uh, “Benjamin Button” film, they were involved in this one as well.  And, uh, I remember they – they showed me, uh, Brad Pitt’s head in a – you know, a glass box.  And it was – it wasn’t anything like you’ve ever seen before.  It was, like, you know, Madame Tussaud’s or that.  It was just – you expected him to, you know, say, “hey, how you doing?”  You know, it was just so real looking.”

Here’s the official synopsis for TRON: Legacy:

TRON is a 3D high—tech adventure set in a digital world that’s unlike anything ever captured on the big screen. Sam Flynn (GARRETT HEDLUND), the tech—savvy 27—year—old son of Kevin Flynn (JEFF BRIDGES), looks into his father’s disappearance and finds himself pulled into the same world of fierce programs and gladiatorial games where his father has been living for 25 years. Along with Kevin’s loyal confidant (OLIVIA WILDE), father and son embark on a life—and—death journey across a visually—stunning cyber universe that has become far more advanced and exceedingly dangerous.

  1. Eh? Digitally de-aged? As far as I’m aware, Clu is an entirely computer-generated character, á la Gollum – not real-life Jeff Bridges with wrinkles digitally removed. And he has looked….unconvincing in the footage so far. I’m no hater – I have a full-on for this movie, but Clu looks a bit Zemeckis at the mo. Fingers crossed they’ll have time to tweak before December

    • I believe that he is in fact de-aged. Bridges played both his character and Clu and then they went and placed the face of the younger jeff bridges on top.

it’s the one thing however, that worries me about the film. I’m not terribly excited about the film but whenever i see that character talk it looks very unnatual. Hopefully they’ll be rectified by the time the film’s released

  2. Just watched the movie. They did not fix the speaking portions. If fact, the reason I googled the movie after the fact was to see if Clu was a fully digital character Most people may not notice when he has subtle speaking parts, but (***spoiler alert***)when he was giving a passionate speech, it looked like a video game character. They have a few years to go before they can digital de-age a full range of emotion.
