TRON: UPRISING Behind-the-Scenes Featurette

     May 17, 2012

While fans of TRON may be holding their breath waiting for a sequel to 2010′s TRON: Legacy, Disney XD aims to hold you over with their futuristic animated series, TRON: Uprising.  With the debut of the first episode set to air on the network tomorrow (unless you’ve already watched it here), Disney has released a behind-the-scenes featurette with tons of footage and some great cast commentary from the recent press junket. We were lucky enough to bring you interviews with stars Elijah Wood, who plays Beck, and Mandy Moore, who voices Mara.

TRON: Uprising also stars Emmanuelle Chriqui, Nate Corddry, Lance Henriksen, Reginald VelJohnson, Paul Reubens, Tricia Helfer and, of course, Bruce Boxleitner. The first episode, “Beck’s Beginning,” will air Friday, May 18 (9:30 – 10:00 p.m., ET/PT) with an uninterrupted encore on Disney XD on Monday, May 21 (7:00 p.m. ET/PT), followed by the series launch on Thursday, June 7 (9:00 p.m.).  Hit the jump to see the featurette.

Here’s the official synopsis for TRON: Uprising, followed by the featurette:

Beck is a young mechanic living in Argon City, a growing metropolis in a far off corner of the grid that has just been occupied by General Tesler, a henchman of the notorious Clu. After his best friend Bodhi is ruthlessly derezzed by Clu’s army, Beck seeks justice for his lost friend and launches a crusade against the regime. His rebellion captures the attention of Tron, the greatest warrior The Grid has ever known, who sees the potential in Beck and trains him to be his successor. Labeled with the moniker of The Renegade, Beck sparks a revolution to fight for the freedom of The Grid.

I haven’t seen/heard a voice cast this good since Batman The Animated series.

The Pilot was actually really good. Been a while since a show had adult characters and a serious plot line like this one. Thank god there isn’t an annoying kid as the main character and a dumb slapstick joke every 4 minutes.

I loved the pilot and I’m really excited to watch more episodes. Plus Bruce Boxleitner has a bitchin voice.

The pilot was brilliant. I’d even go to say that it’s better than the films; it definitely has much more emotion, and the story feels more direct and heavier. And darker, too.

This is hardly a kid’s show, but kids will love it, too.

Just finished watching the pilot and I must say I am really stoked! I’ll be “sourcing” this every week and making sure to buy it when it eventually comes out on DVD!
