While many TRON fans are still waiting (possibly in vain) for a sequel to TRON: Legacy, Disney XD is bringing fresh TRON goodness right into the comfort of your own living room. The animated TRON: Uprising series doesn’t debut until June 7th, the first episode has been put online for those that are eager to get a peek at what’s in store. I’m not exactly the biggest TRON fan, but I’ve heard really great things about Uprising. From the bit of this episode that I watched, the animation looks pretty nifty and I’m sure fans of the films will enjoy visiting the TRON world through a weekly series. The story takes place between the events of TRON and TRON: Legacy.

Here’s a synopsis for TRON: Uprising:
Beck is a young mechanic living in Argon City, a growing metropolis in a far off corner of the grid that has just been occupied by General Tesler, a henchman of the notorious Clu. After his best friend Bodhi is ruthlessly derezzed by Clu’s army, Beck seeks justice for his lost friend and launches a crusade against the regime. His rebellion captures the attention of Tron, the greatest warrior The Grid has ever known, who sees the potential in Beck and trains him to be his successor. Labeled with the moniker of The Renegade, Beck sparks a revolution to fight for the freedom of The Grid.

I live in Canada and can’t watch it. Ridiculous.
Go back to your hut Canadian! haha jk
I can’t believe this is just premiering now, I remember reading about this when Legacy was coming out… being that I’ve never watched Disney channel in my life I always figured it was already out. Sounds ambitious, can’t wait to check it out tomorrow.
I love how dark it is, great work

I’m not a huge fan of the Aeon Flux style facial animation, but other than that it’s good stuff. Feels kind of like Batman Beyond.
Sad. This one 30 minute episode was better than Tron Legacy in its entirety. Damn!
It was actually pretty good. Way better than I expected. Please green light another sequel!
My almost 7-year old daughter is a big fan of the Tron movies, and this was pretty sweet, so we’ll be checking this out. I’m a little concerned with the amount of killing, however. Digital or no it’s pretty nasty for young ‘uns.
Really digging this style of animation where it’s 3D character models but animated at low frame rates with cel shading. I like the budget trade-off here as it allows the camera to roam freely. On top of that, the style of the world allows for a good deal of abstraction for more quickly created, yet beautiful backgrounds.
There’s a frequent lack of depth in the facial expressions but no more than most animated TV shows. Really smart design though the highly exaggerated faces and proportions will be polarizing for many, I think. I’m really enjoying it myself.
Actually I think the exaggerated faces and figures are necessary given the similarity in the outfits for everyone. Very well thought out.
