True Detective season 2 carries some big expectations. The first season hit the zeitgeist, but since True Detective is an anthology, the only constant is writer and creator Nic Pizzolatto. So how much of season one’s magic came from Pizzolatto and how much came from director Cary Fukunaga and stars Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson?

However it shakes out, HBO is keeping the brooding, damning marketing intact. Last year’s True Detective posters carried the tagline “Man Is the Cruelest Animal”. This year, it’s “We Get the World We Deserve,” on motion posters showing L.A. traffic. When he was doing press for season one, Pizzolatto said season two was about “hard women, bad men and the secret occult history of the United States transportation system,” but then walked it back. You can see from these posters that transportation will still be a major part of the story.

Check out the True Detective Season 2 motion posters below. The show returns June 21st at 10pm, and stars Colin Farrell, Rachel McAdams, Taylor Kitsch, Kelly Reilly, and Vince Vaughn.
