Last night we finally rejoined the battle for the Iron Throne when Game of Thrones season 6 premiered on HBO, HBOGO and your local Westeros Sports Bar - and the TV Talk crew was all there to watch. The season premiere shed a lot of blood, saw two different naked bodies of the same person and of course, included graphic monologues about decomposing bodies.

The Walking Dead season 6 finale left us all guessing who’s blood ran down the camera lens. In the wake of the non-spoiling season finale, Steven Yeun has been cast in Okja, a movie being produced by Plan B, for Netflix, which coincidentally shoots at the same time as The Walking Dead.

According to Deadline, Mel Gibson, apparently a man on the mend, is making his way back into Hollywood’s good graces, being tapped to direct the TV Series adaptation of The Barbary Coast starring Kate Hudson and Kurt Russell. The Barbary Coast will be adapted from the novel of the same name written by Herbert Asbury and deals with the building of San Francisco and its notorious underground fueled by the California Goldrush. The show is still being shopped around.

At a Q&A at the Tribeca Film Festival, Baz Luhrmann discussed his upcoming Netflix series The Get Down, teasing it as the pre-history of hip-hop set in the Bronx in the late 1970’s. With help from legendary artists like Nas and Grandmaster Flash and Luhrmann’s passion for music, the director said he treated the set and his directing style as more of an MC or DJ. The series will drop on August 12th streaming directly to your brain like a giant boombox.

SUPERHERO RUNDOWN

Syfy is in the process of ordering the pilot for David Goyer’s Krypton. The series will explore the House of El, two generations before the birth of the Superman we’re familiar with. The project has seen its fair share of rewrites and development, but with Sleepy Hollow‘s Damian Kindler coming on board as EP and showrunner it looks like a green-light for the green planet.

In this week’s Iron Fist Casting news, Tom Pelphrey of Banshee fame and 90210’s Jessica Stroup will play Ward and Joy Meachum, the son and daughter of Harold Meachum and the driving force behind the Rand Enterprise conglomerate that was built in the absence of Danny Rand, aka Iron Fist. Plus spoiler heavy recaps of The Flash and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D
