Hold-Outs Kellan Lutz and Ashley Greene Are Holding up THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN

by Matt Goldberg    Posted:May 10th, 2010 at 11:32 pm

To the surprise of no one, Summit decided to break the final Twilight book, Breaking Dawn, into two parts.  However, that decision to keep The Twilight Saga going for an extra movie yielded a problem in the contracts with the stars.  After the success of the first film, everyone was signed for three more movies.  A fifth film has led to significant contract re-negotiations and the stars are using their powerful bargaining position to garner a higher payday.  However, you can only ask for so much before the studio decides to cut you loose and find a replacement.

Before Twilight fans start panicking, THR, Esq. reports that leads Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner are all close to finalizing their deals.  However, the actors playing the Cullen kids (“especially Kellan Lutz and Ashley Greene”) are reportedly trying to negotiate a salary of ten times what they made on the first movie.  Says a source close to the negotiations, “We may have a situation where one of them is thrown out on the street to make a point.”  Hit the jump for more.

As Twilight fans are well aware, the franchise is not afraid to recast, as Summit replaced Rachelle Lefevre, who played baddie vampire Victoria, with Bryce Dallas Howard after Lefevre tried to play hardball.  Granted, Lutz and Greene have been able to build a little star power since Twilight.  Lutz just appeared in the remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street and is set to co-star in Tarsem’s Greek gods film, Immortals, while Greene will next be seen in the horror film Apparition and is co-starring in the political satire Butter.  But I think fans would agree that unless your name ends with “Pattinson” or “Lautner”, you’re expendable if you delay the Twilight movies.  I think it’s a bad career move from any of the co-stars to try and hold-out for an unrealistic payday on these movies.  Take a reasonable raise and accept that your real payment is in visibility.

Bill Condon (Dreamgirls) is set to helm both parts of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, which are scheduled to hit theaters in November 2011 and summer 2012, respectively.

It could also be that they are sick of making crappy movies. Even Pattinson has a hard time knowing that he helped bring such trash into the world.

    Fame comes with a cost.

    Lol. Good point.

Just because you don't like the Twilight series doesn't mean YOU know what Robert Pattinson thinks or feels. I haven't heard or read him saying a bad thing about it. That's how humble and modest he is. You're presumptuous and arrogant.

Well Ashley Greene is 100x hotter than Stewart. PAY HER!

All kidding aside, I agree with you Matt. They should just roll with it. I don't think any tweens would care if they cut both of em.

LOL, how many words has Lutz spoken? Is it up to one per movie? You could replace him with Tickle Me Elmo. Collect your check and STFU, dude.

Actually, Pattinson is pretty notorious for bashing the Twilight books by calling them crap fanfiction and that he thinks they're nothing but Mary Sues. In interviews he says he thinks the character of Edward is a psychopath.

I'm sick of the studio greed! Summit would still be nothing today without the Twilight franchise which put Summit on the map. I'm still angry that Summit replaced Rachelle Lefevre, so this article is completely wrong to assume that true fans won't care. Summit played nasty politics with Lefevre, so if they do this again, I hope it ends up in a backlash and hurting them in the pocketbook.

Yeah he has voiced his dismay over being a part of the series and said he would not have done the films had he known what the movies were. He also dislikes the raving fan-girls always harassing him. Which is why he has been making films that differentiate his acting so that he doesn't get typecast in that role.

I have no issue with the actors of Twilight I think they are pretty decent actors who have been put in a position to play terrible characters. I'm sure they all took the jobs because they needed the money bad, when your not Denzel Washington you don't really have much of a choice in the matter.

I personally do not like Pattinson or Stewart for the roles of edward and Bella I do however like the rest of the cast. I think Ashley makes a great Alice and deserves more money. As for Kellan he and Taylor are the only attractive guys in the movie so just pay the man. I would probaly not see Breaking Dawn if they cut these actors. I'm not that impressed with how the movies have come out anyway so if you take away the few things I do enjoy I sure as heck don't want to see it.

Ashley and Kellan are just asking for what the deserve, summit are being cheap and trying to make them look like divas. I dont think they can or should be replaced.

    actually we do care

I think losing Lutz and Greene would be a mistake, or maybe not, seeing as the movies have completely ruined the characters they are portraying. Both Alice and Emmett had much larger roles in the book, but whoever wrote the screenplay didn't seem to care. I think the movies are crap, and they should all quit. >.< But if they don't, I wouldn't lose Lutz and Greene. They fit those roles almost perfectly. And the Victoria example? No one gave a crap about her. She was a bad guy, who doesn't really even make herself known until later on. Of course they could replace her!

They should have gotten rid of Greene and Lutz, they are old friends and thought they could push the studio around. I guess they did but if would have been better to just use this franchise as a stepping stone. They’ve damaged their reputations with their actions.
