Although we know Fox is developing Wolverine 3, Deadpool 2, New Mutants, Gambit (eventually), and (probably still) X-Force, the future of the X-Men franchise is still somewhat of a mystery. Gambit was pushed out of its 2016 release slot to 2017 and then to an undetermined date, while Deadpool proves himself a major money-maker for the property. So where will Fox take fans in terms of a core trilogy? Though the answer is still unclear, Tye Sheridan, who plays a young Cyclops in X-Men: Apocalypse, has signed on for two more films, so chances are he’ll be a part of it.

So, it’s good that he’s now obsessed with this universe. During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the actor remarked:

After I saw [Days of Future Past], I just thought, “Oh my God. I’ve been missing this the whole time?!” I went back and watched all the previous films, and I quickly became obsessed.

Sheridan joins a crop of actors plays younger versions of classic X-Men, including Sophie Turner as Jean Grey, Kodi Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler, Alexandra Shipp as Storm, and Ben Hardy as Angel/Archangel. Though, he feels he has the less cool mutant ability. “Everyone else’s moves are kinda cool, and I just take off my glasses and stare at someone really intensely and growl,” he said.

Maybe after two more X-Men films, he’ll be able to perfect the stare. Regardless, he also has a headlining role in Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One movie adaptation to look forward to. Set in the year 2044, the character of Wade Watts stumbles upon the first clue in a Willy Wonka-esque puzzle to unlock the secrets of a popular virtual reality game, but other players are willing to kill for the intel. Though Sheridan, who co-stars with Bridge of Spies star Mark Rylance in the film, couldn’t reveal many details, he expressed his desire to work with Spielberg to EW.

He’s like a living legend. Just having the opportunity to walk into a room, shake his hand, and audition for one of his films was one of the greatest experiences.

Sheridan can be seen in X-Men: Apocalypse starting May 27th, while Ready Player One is currently scheduled for release on March 30, 2018.
