Limited Paper: Mondo Announces STOUT & TAYLOR Show at The Mondo Gallery in March; Plus Updates on Stout’s DJANGO UNCHAINED APs and More

by     Posted 1 year, 53 days ago

The Mondo guys have been killing it over the past few days, haven’t they?  They kicked things off on Sunday night, dropping fourteen new posters during the Oscars, the last of which turned out to be Tyler Stout’s heavily-rumored/desired Django Unchained print.  The following afternoon, Team Mondo kept the party going by announcing that they’d teamed with HBO for a Game of Thrones-themed showcase slated to hit the Mondo Gallery on March 8th.  But then– just as everyone was absorbing that news—Mondo dropped an even bigger bombshell:  there’d be a second show opening at the Mondo Gallery next month, as well.

Cue the dramatic music, folks, and then meet me after the jump:   I’ll tell you what Mondo’s second show is all about, provide an update on the shipping of your Oscar Night purchases, and (last but not least) I’ll give ya a tiny bit of info regarding Stout’s Django Unchained APs.  Click through!  Now!

First of all:  in the wake of Sunday’s fourteen-print mega-drop, I was hearing a lot of conflicting info concerning the shipping of those prints.  Some said they were going to start shipping out immediately, others were saying “four to six weeks”.  I checked in with Mondo HQ, and here’s what’s up:  right now, Mondo’s finishing up the shipping on their Poltergeist LPs.  Once that’s finished, their plan is to briefly put shipping efforts on hold while they get their house in order for the Game of Thrones show (opening March 8th).

In other words, that “four-to-six week” shipping estimate is the timeframe you should be working with.  As usual, it sounds like Austinites will be able to retrieve their purchases in-person as they come back from the printer’s, but let’s not go banging on their door just yet:  Mondo will let everyone know when A) the new stuff comes in and B) when it’s a good time to swing by to collect it.  Follow the @MondoNews and @MondoGallery Twitter feeds for pertinent updates going forward.

Secondly:  I reached out to up-and-coming artist Tyler Stout via email yesterday and asked if he had anything worth announcing about the release of his Django Unchained APs.   Here’s what he said in response:

…We’ll have some for sale, but i’m not exactly sure when. my copies will be signed. I have to count my copies up, so can’t really figure out how many I’ll have yet.  But if people are on my mailing list, I’ll be emailing everyone (with the) details regarding (the Django AP lottery/sale). Probably not this week though: deadlines are crashing all around me, ha.

So, nothing surprising here: Dr. Stout is on the case, people.  He just needs a bit of time to get prints counted, signed, etc, etc.  That’s sure to be a contentious lottery…but hey, if Stout’s got deadlines crashing around him, that means dude’s got plenty more stuff on the way.  Ahem…

That brings us to the reason we’re all here today: what is up with this second gallery show?  Well, our friends at /Film landed the exclusive on this one, and they just broke the story a few minutes ago:  as it turns out, the rumors you’ve been hearing were absolutely true.  Mondo’s second gallery show in March will be a joint show between Tyler Stout and Ken Taylor.  While you’re letting that sink in, here’s the show’s flier:

Now, everyone just remain calm:  we’re gonna make it through this.  Everyone needs to file out of their homes in an orderly manner, drive calmly to the airport, fly to Austin, and commence camping out immediately.  If you remember to do so, please bring extra chairs, toilet paper, toothpaste, and as many Yazoo tubes as you can get your hands on.  Stout and Taylor opens March 15th at the Mondo Gallery in downtown Austin, TX (that’s 41st and Guadalupe, if you like specifics), just days after their Game of Thrones show closes its doors.  There’s no word on the artwork or general theme of the show at this time, but you can rest assured we’ll be keeping you updated as things progress, and you can bet your candy ass we’ll be there to grab photos and video at the show’s opening.

Alright, let’s wrap this up:  as is always the case around here: if you’re an artist or gallery with artwork you’d like to see featured on Limited Paper (or if you’re just some lucky bastard who happened to overhear a bit of poster-related gossip while standing in the bushes outside Martin Ansin’s house) we wanna hear from you!  Email Limited Paper directly at LimitedPaper@gmail.com, and be sure that you’re following us on Twitter via @LimitedPaper for ongoing commentary, news updates, giveaways, and more!

I appreciated the time Collider puts in to these articles but they mean absolutely nothing to me unless I can actually BUY the damn things. Why even bother with Mondo? Seriously….

A Stout/Taylor show. Awesome. Can’t wait to hear people bitch about how similar their styles are and why they would bother putting two artists together when their styles are so similar. Blah blah blah.

As for the ability to get prints. It’s easy to sit and hit F5, waiting for them to drop. The problem is Mondo’s slow-ass checkout process and servers that can’t handle the massive traffic. I’ve given up on them to be honest. Most people buy them simply because they’re a Mondo print. Nothing more. There are other artists who do amazing work and participate in gallery shows that you actually have a chance to purchasing art from.
