David O. Russell (I Heart Huckabees, Three Kings) is currently putting the finishing touches on his latest film, The Fighter, but it seems that the director may already be setting up his next project. According to 24 Frames, Summit Entertainment is considering Russell to direct Jim Carrey in the comedy Under Cover, described as a “heartwarming but broadly comic story of a man winning back his family and re-discovering his voice by performing some of the greatest hits of classic rock in the unlikely company of a cover band.”
Russell might seem like an odd choice at first, but the director seems to want to get out of his comfort zone as of late. He was once attached to direct an adaptation of the PlayStation 3 video game Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, and is still attached to an adaptation of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies starring Natalie Portman. I look forward to anything Russell does, but I’m definitely interested in seeing how a collaboration between Carrey and Russell would turn out.
