It looks like Resident Evil isn’t the only film franchise getting the TV treatment.  While at New York Comic-Con promoting Sleepy Hollow, Len Wiseman revealed that the new Underworld film starring Theo James isn’t the only thing in the works.  He’s also developing an additional Underworld film, possibly with Kate Beckinsale, and an Underworld TV series as well.

Wiseman couldn’t confirm which one they’ll jump into first nor how they’ll all fit together to expand the Underworld cinematic universe, but they are in development now.  Hit the jump for more on all three endeavors.

Here’s what Wiseman told IGN at Comic-Con:

“There’s a few things being developed right now and there’s some characters that we really like.  There’s kind of more of a spin-off of some of the characters like we did with Rise of the Lycans and then another film is also being developed in the works with Kate possibly as well, and then there’s a television series as well.  It’s kind of expanding that universe in many ways.”

Apparently the buzzword (or term) right now is “shared universe.”  Marvel’s got quite the head start, but, as you well know, DC and Warner Bros. are bringing Batman and Superman together, Universal is working on their monster movie franchise, there’s that planned Robin Hood cinematic universe and now we’ve also got Constantin Film aiming to release a Resident Evil TV series as well.  The format’s got serious potential, but it’s also going to be tough to meet the standards Marvel’s already established, especially when you don’t have a wealth of source material to guide you.

But again, these projects are only in development so none of this is a sure thing just yet, especially considering Beckinsale has said that it’s “unlikely” she’ll ever do another Underworld film.  However, if Wiseman says she’s considering it, I’d be inclined to believe him – they are married after all – but I’d imagine they’d have to break one heck of a story to get her officially involved.
