Universal Pictures has made a very sound business decision by grabbing the distribution rights to Tom Hanks’ Larry Crowne, the first film he’s directed since since 1996′s delightful That Thing You Do. Hanks co-wrote the script for Crowne with Nia Vardalos.  Hanks produced Vardalos’ break-out (and only) hit, My Big Fat Greek Wedding.  There’s also a reunion in front of the camera as Hanks is re-teaming with his Charlie Wilson’s War co-star Julia Roberts.

Not much is known about the film beyond its logline of “Larry Crowne is a man forced to reinvent himself and find a new career as he navigates the second act of his life.”  If this film were produced by Jon Peters, he would most likely find a giant spider in the third act of his life. [THR]
