Festival season is upon us. Yesterday, the Toronto International Film Festival announced part of its outstanding lineup, and this morning, the Venice Film Festival has announced what they have in store. There’s a lot of crossover between the two festivals, which means Venice, which plays first, will get the world premieres for Beasts of No Nation, The Danish Girl, Anomalisa, Spotlight, and, as we previously reported, Black Mass. Venice will also open with the world premiere for the survival drama Everest.
The lineup also includes such exciting titles as Drake Doremus’ new movie Equals, Noah Baumbach and Jake Paltrow’s Brian De Palma documentary De Palma, and Martin Scorsese’s 16-minute short film The Audition starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, and Robert De Niro. The festival also has a diverse collection of international titles, and I’m eager to find out what picks up buzz ahead of TIFF and if any of these films will show up in Toronto as late additions.
Check out the full Venice Film Festival 2015 lineup below via Variety. The festival runs from September 2 – 12th.
