V/H/S: VIRAL and Alexandre Aja’s THE PYRAMID Both Due Later This Year

     July 8, 2014

After Deliver Us From Evil failed to live up to Sinister’s standards, news that we’ve got two new horror movies with some serious potential heading our way later this year couldn’t have popped up at a better time.  With The Conjuring spin-off, Annabelle, in the mix, October is looking pretty good for Halloween-appropriate new releases.  After Annabelle drops on the 3rd, we’ve got both Ouija and Paranormal Activity 5 on the 24th and then ABCs of Death 2 gets a limited release on the 31st.

But that’s not all.  The latest installment of the V/H/S series, V/H/S: Viral, just took a spot on the October line-up as well.  Find out when and where you’ll be able to catch it after the jump.

vhs-viral-releaseAccording to Bloody Disgusting, V/H/S: Viral will first arrive on VOD platforms on October 23rd and then get a limited theatrical release on November 21st.  This could wind up being a really smart move.  V/H/S: Viral will absolutely benefit from the Halloween-time horror frenzy, but the tail end of October is already pretty crowded with similar material.  November, however, is wide open.  Sure, it doesn’t stand a chance against The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1, but it doesn’t have to.  It’s a low-budget production, has a completely different target audience, and now it’s just made itself the only horror movie hitting theaters in the entire month of November.

And now we’ve also got The Pyramid, which will enjoy a similar set-up in the month after.  If you’re unaware of this one, it might be because the title was once Site 146, but even then, there’s been so little talk about the project lately, it easily could have fallen off your radar.  However, now it’s back because, according to Box Office Mojo, 20th Century Fox has just set the Alexandre Aja-produced film for a December 5, 2014 release.  The Pyramid marks Aja’s longtime collaborator, Grégory Levasseur’s directorial debut and stars Ashley Hinshaw, Denis O’Hare, and James Buckley.

Here’s the film’s synopsis via Silvatar Media:

“A team of U.S. archaeologists unearths an ancient pyramid buried deep beneath the Egyptian desert. As they search the pyramid’s depths, they become hopelessly lost in its dark and endless catacombs. Searching for a way out, they become desperate to seek daylight again. They come to realize they aren’t just trapped, they are being hunted.”

I read that a while back that Paranormal Activity 5 has been delayed until 2015.

  • Underground Anthem TX

I liked the first V/H/S, but didn’t enjoy the second (I possibly might not have been in the right mood for it). I’m up for a third installment, mainly because I really like horror anthologies and I think this is a good concept.

I’m a big fan of Aja, but this is the first I’m reading of PYRAMID. Then again, it’s hard to keep up with all the stuff this guy has in development, directing or producing; Cobra Space Pirate was going to be his next movie, then it was the Pet Semetary remake, and still no release date for HORNS. Guy should be working more.

Yeah Paranormal Activity has been delayed to 2015 or 2016? Also this is the first time i hear about Annabelle which is surprising cause it’s coming out in a few months. Hmmm…

I’m trying to find info on who directed what on this new VHS but I can’t find anything. I really want to know what Nacho Vigalondo’s segment is about.
