NYKO Theatre Experience

Rating 3.5 out of 5

The NYKO Charger Case offers 2 key features that many PSP owners often wish they had after its too late…protection and extended battery life.  One drop of the PSP could mean your several hundred dollar investment is spread on the ground next to your tears. Have you ever had the low battery warning come on in the middle of intense game play or a favorite movie with no power outlet in sight to charge up?  Set aside such fears with NYKO’s Charger Case.  This protective case with built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery may be just what you need to prevent such frustration from ever happening.

The NYKO Charger Case has a brushed aluminum exterior with a sturdy latch to keep it closed tightly.  On the bottom are 2 rubber strips with good grip to prevent sliding on a flat surface.  The front part of the case contains the charging ports and charge status lights.  The inside reveals a shock-absorbing black neoprene lining perfectly sculpted for the PSP.  Build quality is quite nice but definitely on the heavy side.  This thing is a brick.  It may be great for protection, but you’ll be limping or walking crooked if you manage to squeeze this in your pocket. (The ladies may think you’re happy to see them...very happy)

A feature missing from the NYKO Charger Case that would have scored it a higher rating is the inclusion of simple stand.  Other protective cases on the market feature an internal or swivel case design that allow the PSP to be propped up at an angle, ideal for movie watching on a desktop.  Sorry, you won’t find one here.

Built into the case is a lithium-ion rechargeable battery which can extend the PSP battery by up to 5 hours…perfect for a long flight or road trip. Beyond the ability to charge the PSP inside the case, you can use the included 5 foot cable to charge and power the PSP while outside the case. This allows you to play games while accessing the extra battery power.

Final Thoughts

The NYKO Charger Case does have a winning combination of protection and extra long battery life wrapped into a single package for the PSP.  Having an extra 5 hours of play time can sure come in handy and there really is no cheap substitute for a damaged or broken PSP…so why not protect it?

Feature Recap

  • Built-in lithium-ion battery adds up to 5 hours extra play time
  • Recharges PSP first, then built-in battery – uses case power before PSP power during play
  • Form-fitted neoprene lining protects PSP
  • Recessed latch prevents accidental opening
  • Stylish aluminum design provides heavy-duty protection
  • Use with original PSP AC adaptor
  • Power the PSP outside of the case with included 5 foot cable
