It’s no secret that Viggo Mortensen has been in talks with Universal to star in the fairy-tale update Snow White and the Huntsman for quite some time now. Well, it looks like the reason talks have taken so long is that the two parties are having trouble coming to an agreement, with Heat Vision reporting that talks with the actor completely fell apart last night. Mortensen is reportedly asking for $8 million plus gross participation for his work in the film, with Universal reportedly none too happy with the demand.
The report states that talks all but disintegrated once before, explaining Mortensen’s flirtation with the villain role in Zack Snyder’s Superman reboot, but the two parties came back to the table. Now, talks have frayed once again and Universal is moving on for the moment. Hit the jump for more.
Kristen Stewart is attached to star as Snow White, with Charlize Theron set to play the Evil Queen in the Rupert Sanders-directed flick. The film pits Snow White as on the run after being banished from the kingdom by the Evil Queen. The young girl is rescued by the Huntsman and soon becomes his protégé. Mortensen was in talks for the role of the Huntsman. It’s unknown if Universal’s “moving on” for the moment is a negotiating tactic or if they’re fully over casting the actor in the role.
Give the bloke the money. He’s bloody earned it. He was in Lord of the Rings for Pete’s sake!
Wow. I can’t believe they won’t give him 8. Are they struggling financially or really don’t think he’s worth it?
He would deserve twice that for being forced with work with Stewart.
Warner Brothers is looking at Michael Shannon and Daniel Day Lewis for Superman. Viggo would not leave unless he had a chance at something. I want him to do this movie because it sounds a little like Aragorn. He is worth the money. I kinda wanted to see what he could do with K-Stew and Charlize Theron. He was already with K-Stew in On the Road and Charlize in The Road.
To hell with it! Now be in Superman PLEASE!
8 million!!!! haha – you have GOT to be kidding me!!! My gosh – choose someone else…. his name is nowhere big enough for that amount of money..
Viggo! Viggo! Viggo!
it’s absurd that they would turn down viggo for 8 million dollars after the repatoire of films he’s been in recently: lord of the rings, history of violence, and eastern promises to name a few. Saying that an oscar nomination makes him no where near that big is prepostrous Viggo Mortensen is a highly underrated actor who gives amazing performances
