We’ve got some new casting news:

  • Vince Vaughn has joined the comedy Daddy’s Home, the feature directorial debut of Etan Cohen (Men in Black 3).  Vaughn will star opposite the big cat himself, Will Ferrell.  The film is about a radio exec (Ferrell) who lives a mild-mannered life until his wife’s ex-husband (Vaughn) returns to the picture and begins competing for his step-children’s love.
  • Director Jonathan Liebesman (Wrath of the Titans) cast William Fichtner (The Dark Knight) in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles remake.  Turtles will be produced by Michael Bay, and the cast includes Megan Fox, Alan Ritchson, and Will ArnettTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles opens June 6, 2014.

will ferrell vince vaughn daddys homeVaughn has signed on to the Paramount film Daddy’s Home as his next project.  Per Variety), Ferrell and Adam McKay (Anchorman) will produce the film for Gary Sanchez Productions along with Joe Drake and Nathan Kahane at Good Universe.  Cohen and McKay will write the script with Brian Burns (Entourage) and Chris Henchy (The Campaign).  I am excited to see a reunion of Vaughn and Ferrell, who made great comedic rivals in Anchorman.  Additionally, I am excited to see Ferrell reunite with McKay—their 2010 collaboration The Other Guys was one of the most underrated comedies of the decade.

Although not much is known about Fichtner’s specific role in Paramount’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles remake, Deadline says he will play a character with iconic stature in the Turtles’ mythology.  We have seen a few set photos of Fox and Arnett getting into character.  Fichtner has played a strong supporting role in numerous films, and I’m sure he will not disappoint in this one.  The actor will next be seen alongside Matt Damon in Neil Blomkamp’s (District 9) upcoming sci-fi thriller, Elysium, due August 9.  For all of you Ninja Turtles fans: what iconic role do you think Fichtner will be cast as?  Leave your comments below.
